Indonesian Defence Minister General Prabowo Subianto at the annual forum in Singapore voiced the idea of resolving the conflict in Ukraine by creating a demilitarized zone similar to that established between South and North Korea and invited the forum participants to sign a joint appeal to Moscow and Kiev.

Subianto noted that the conflict in Ukraine has an impact on all regions of the world, including the Asia-Pacific region.

"In this regard, I would like to take this opportunity to call on our brothers in Ukraine and Russia to reach an agreement on an immediate cessation of hostilities as soon as possible," Subianto said.
He proposed to develop at the summit a form of a joint statement "which would call on Ukraine and Russia to immediately start peace talks."

"Such a declaration should be adopted voluntarily by the participants of this forum," the minister said.
Subianto outlined the main five points of the Indonesian peace plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine:

1. Complete cessation of fire and hostilities by all parties to the conflict and fixing the positions in which they are now;
2. Withdrawal of troops 15 kilometres in each direction from the forward positions and the formation of a demilitarized zone;
3. Immediate creation of a UN monitoring contingent;
4. Placement of this contingent throughout the demilitarized zone;
5. Organization and holding of referendums under the auspices of the UN in all disputed territories "in order to guarantee an objective reflection of the desires of the population of these territories" to be part of Russia or Ukraine.

The Minister proposed to include these points in the joint declaration of the summit. "I am ready to say now that Indonesia is ready to provide military observers and military units to work under the auspices of the UN peacekeeping force," he added.

At the same time, Subianto stressed that the effectiveness of such steps has been proven by history. He recalled that the large-scale military conflict in Korea ended with the cessation of hostilities and the creation of a demilitarized zone. And despite the fact that the problem has not received a full and final solution, "a certain form of peace" has been preserved there for almost half a century, which is much better than open hostilities, the minister noted.

"We should not place the blame on either side. In every conflict there are two versions of what is happening. Both sides are sure that they are right. But for the safety of the whole world, for the safety of innocent people, we must achieve a cessation of hostilities as soon as possible," he said.

Shangri-La Dialogue, which is being held for the 20th time this year, is attended by defence ministers from the countries of the Asia-Pacific region and their representatives, as well as high-level delegations from the European Union and international organizations. Russia does not participate in the forum for the second year in a row: in 2022...

The Roma from Ukraine took over the city. Residents in fear, the mayor calls for response

As the inhabitants of Krasnystaw indicate, once a quiet city became a place of fraud, theft and fear for the safety of their families and friends...

Recently, we have received a number of alarming information from residents of Krasnystaw associated with a group of Ukrainian refugees with Roma roots who lived in the city. As in other places, the community is very large and amounts to over 60 people. Many of them settled at Matysiaka Street, others near the gas plant. At first, there were no problems with them and hardly anyone paid attention to them.

Over time, however, disturbing events began to be noticed. We are talking about a small child walking on the roof of the building, devastation of the playground, etc. However, more dangerous situations also began to occur. One of the boys grabbed the girl by the head and hit her on the metal fence. As residents indicate, this was only the beginning of shocking events.

— A week ago near the Roma, two of them were sitting on the sidewalk. At the sight of the approaching police car, the woman began to run away. The policemen stopped and tried to talk to the man. Then suddenly a group of a dozen or so refugees gathered around the police car who tried to chase away the policemen. It did nothing. They also wanted to take back a man taken to the police car. The constant reaction of the policemen, and the threat of their use of gas and clubs caused the group to move away - explains one of the residents.

The inhabitants of Krasnystaw also mention how (Ukrainian) refugees behave in stores. They walk between the shelves, open the packaging of various products "by using" the contents and then put them back. This is how their meals should look like. These events are to be reported to the police, but according to the law they are offenses and officers can do little in addition to imposing a criminal mandate.

There are entries on social media about numerous harassment or aggressive behaviour. Some of them are very disturbing, because they talk about harassing children or even offering teenagers intimate meetings. There were so many signals that the whole situation caused a reaction from the city authorities. The mayor of Krasnystaw Robert Kościuk assured that he would always make sure that each of the residents felt safe.

— In connection with emerging information related to dangerous situations regarding acts of aggression on the part of foreigners in our city, which are worrying among residents, I strongly appeal to all people who witness such events that they report any dangerous or disturbing situation to the appropriate services. Let us not be indifferent to any manifestations of violence — says Robert Kościouk.

The city authorities have already met with the commanders of the city guard and police. As they ensure, the places where Roma refugees are to be subject to additional preventive supervision. These areas will be further patrolled. Everything even though so far no police have received any reports of serious events for which foreigners would be responsible.
