Waffles News - RIP Waffles

Per a staff member:

We haven't heard from our sysop since August. I think it's fair to say to that Waffles, despite its extreme resilience in the past, is now indeed dead.

I would love to be proven wrong, but there is simply no reason to believe our home is still being worked on.

Personally, I'm pissed. Our sysop initially kept us informed throughout but they simply vanished months ago. I'm done hiding whatever there was left to hide regarding Waffles' situation. I doubt I have more information to give you all, but know that I'm more disappointed than anyone. It's been nearly twelve years since I joined Waffles, and I've been part of its staff for a large part of it. Knowing it's done is a fucking bummer, especially because it shouldn't be. Waffles died a dishonourable death. We didn't get shut down. Incompetence and then negligence fucked us.

I wanted to donate our remaining funds to trackers in need, but apparently this was also managed by our missing sysop. To their credit, our servers haven't been shut down so I don't believe they took the money and ran, but all of it is now being wasted.

I don't know what else there is to say. This post hurts me. I hope we can all remember Waffles for what it was: An amazing community. For what it's worth, RED is doing an amazing job in that department.

Nebulance News - MTV Refugees

Since October 25th MTV has been experiencing difficulties and as I write this the site is currently down. Hopefully they will find a way to bring the site back and continue to provide a service to the private trackercommunity. However, at this point I am going to err on the side of caution and offer any MTV member that wishes to accept, the opportunity to come and join us here at Nebulance. As the site is currently down I will need to see one of two things as proof of membership:

MTV screenshot of stats/profile page
MTV screenshot of invite email

If either of those are in your possession feel free to come to IRC.
Current members of the fleet here at NBL it is up to you guys to spread this news.

_

Nebulance.

Repost from r/trackers

Private game tracker Playbits.org was hacked a few weeks ago. Unhashed, Plaintext emails and Passwords compromised
Not sure whether anyone here had an account there, but basically the website/server side of it had fallen into disarray from neglect over the years of whomever the fuck owned it, and it was hacked by that huge php vulnerability last month. One of the fellow users tried to patch the server and the vulnerability using the same exploit lol, but it was clear at that point that the actual owner DGAF. It was a pretty solid community and torrent tracker (the torrent tracker itself still functions amongst the community independent of the site).

However, the reality is that the breach was only disclosed in a somewhat difficult to find PHPBB forum thread and whoever owned the domain/site decided not to renew it starting November 1st, so there's really no disclosure existing anymore. So if you had an account and were naive enough to use a password shared with your other important web accounts, it would definitely be prudent to change any passwords that were shared with your playbits account. All the data was unhashed plaintext, so yeah, again, whoever actually ran it was a complete dumbass. PSA and RIP to the community.

عضو في r/trackers:
