@oduches (менеджер)
Bounce

Topical authority is not a score; these proxies tell you if a cluster is working
Do not chase a single “authority” number. It is usually a lagging, blended metric. Use proxies that show whether a site is becoming the obvious answer for a subject:
— More pages from the cluster start ranking for non-brand queries
— Internal pages pull impressions on related terms, not just one target keyword
— New articles get indexed and pick up impressions faster than older isolated pages
The best signal is breadth, not one hero URL. If ten related pages begin appearing for variations of the same intent, your topical map is doing its job. If only the hub ranks while supporting pages stay invisible, the cluster is too thin, too similar, or too dependent on internal links that do not add context.
Check content depth in plain language: does each page answer a distinct sub-question, use unique examples, and link to the next logical step? Thin overlap kills clusters. So does random publishing. Topical authority grows when every page earns its place in the map and reinforces a narrower part of the subject 🧭
Use these proxies together, not alone: ranking spread, impression growth across related queries, and how many cluster pages actually surface in search. If all three move in the right direction, the site is building authority where it matters.

ChatGPT Pro Max

Gemini

Topical authority, cluster, hub, semantic distance, intent: the 5 terms you must not mix
Topical authority is the site-level result: Google sees enough depth to trust you on a subject. A cluster is the group of supporting pages built around one broad theme. A hub is the central page that connects those pages and sets the structure. If you swap these terms, your plan gets messy fast.
Semantic distance is how far two topics are from each other in meaning. Close topics can live in the same cluster; distant ones need a different home. Intent is the search goal behind the query: learn, compare, buy, or solve. One keyword can look similar on the surface and still belong elsewhere because the intent is different.
A simple test: ask whether a page answers the same user problem, not just the same keyword. If yes, it belongs in the cluster. If it supports multiple related pages, it may be a hub. If it needs a separate audience, separate intent, or a different content angle, keep it out. That decision protects topical clarity.
Use the glossary this way: authority = outcome, cluster = group, hub = connector, semantic distance = separation rule, intent = matching rule. When these roles are clear, your map stops being a list of articles and starts becoming a system.

How many articles does a topical cluster need before you can call it complete?
There is no universal number. A cluster is complete when it covers the audience’s meaningful questions and gives the hub page a clear purpose. Article count is the result of coverage, not the target.
Build the map in this order:
1. Define the core topic and primary intent.
2. List subtopics, use cases, comparisons, problems, and objections.
3. Add a page only when it answers a distinct question.
4. Link each page to the hub and to closely related articles.
Use a stopping test: look for missing questions, duplicate intent, and unsupported claims. If two pages serve the same need, combine them. If an important question has no useful destination, add a page. Check whether the internal links help readers move from learning to choosing or acting.
Do not use a fixed rule such as 10, 20, or 50 articles. A narrow topic may need five strong pages; a broad one may need dozens. Publish the smallest complete set, then expand only when a genuine coverage gap appears.

The right topical map is not a keyword dump: use three tools for three different jobs
A topical map needs both discovery and structure. Keyword tools reveal search language, related queries, and gaps in your coverage. They do not decide what belongs on one page, what deserves a hub, or which topics support the same intent.
Use a keyword tool to collect raw material, then clean it before planning:
• Group synonyms and near-duplicates.
• Separate informational, commercial, and navigational intent.
• Mark terms that need their own page instead of forcing them into one article.
• Keep useful low-volume ideas when they complete a topic, not just because they show demand.
Use a mind map to test the logic of the cluster. Put the broad subject at the center, then branch into subtopics, questions, comparisons, entities, and supporting guides. If a branch needs a long explanation, it may be a hub or content cluster rather than a single article.
Move the approved structure into a spreadsheet. Useful columns include primary topic, search intent, parent hub, target URL, supporting pages, status, and internal-link targets. This makes overlap visible and turns the map into an editorial workflow.
Tools should reduce confusion, not replace judgment. Build the map in a keyword tool, validate the relationships in a mind map, and manage execution in a spreadsheet.
