The ICON Olympus Project

Building humanity’s first home on another world will be the most ambitious construction project in human history and will push science, engineering, technology, and architecture to literal new heights. NASA’s investment in space-age technologies like Project Olympus can not only help to advance humanity’s future in space, but also to solve very real, vexing problems we face on Earth.

This is the final third phase of the SBIR program, under which ICON received funding from NASA and the US Department of Defense. The total amount of the contract is about $ 60 million.

The Olympus system from ICON is being developed as a multi-purpose construction system that will use the resources of the Moon and Mars as building materials. The main purpose of the system is to support the efforts of NASA and commercial organizations to establish a sustainable lunar presence.

One of the main aspects of the Olympus ICON system is the use of 3D printing to create building structures on the moon and beyond. This will allow efficient use of local resources and reduce dependence on supplies from the Ground. ICON has already developed and successfully tested 3D-printed technology to create housing on Earth, and now they intend to adapt this technology for use in the space environment.


The commercial potential of the Olympus ICON system is also very great. It is assumed that this technology can be used in the future to create infrastructure on the Moon and Mars, including residential settlements, research laboratories and other spaces for human activities in space.

Receiving this significant contract from NASA confirms the significance and potential of the ICON Olympus project. The company will continue to work on developing a construction system to support future lunar exploration and other space missions.
