TIL there is a species of blind cave beetle only in five humid caves in Slovenia known as Anophthalmus hitleri, named in tribute to Adolf Hitler in 1933 when they were discovered. Their name has not changed since, as it is taxonomic tradition to not change the name of an organism after it is named.

TIL the NASA X-43 achieved Mach 9.6 with a jet engine. The unmanned 3.6 meter aircraft were used to prove the design and were purposely crashed into the ocean on test completion. An aircraft that could sustain this speed would be able to travel 1000 kilometers every 5 minutes.
