TIL bananas and eggplants are berries, but strawberries, raspberries and blackberries are not. People called certain plants "berries" long before a scientific definition for what a berry actual is was created, and this is why the discrepancy in the use of the term happens.

TIL the West Virginia town of Vulcan couldn’t get any funds to repair a failing bridge during the Cold War so they wrote to the USSR and requested aid. Once someone from the Soviet Union came out to survey, the State government then passed legislation to have funds to repair the bridge.
