Assessing the impact of proposed Basel III endgame rules on banks
The proposed Basel III endgame rules, while largely in line with expectations, still means that a group of banks with assets between $100B-$700B will be subject to stricter capital rules than they currently are. And the largest banks will need to comply with stricter rules on risk-weighted assets (RWA), analysts said in recent notes.
Category III and IV banks, with assets in the $100B-$700B range, would be subject to regulatory capital calculations that the largest U.S. banks already have to deal with. They'll need to include AOCI (accumulated other comprehensive income) impacts, capital deductions, and rules for minority interest in common equity tier 1 calculations. That means that they'll have to include available-for-sale securities unrealized gains or losses in calculating their CET1 ratios.
"We estimate that AOCI inclusion would negatively impact banks under coverage 2025E CET1 ratios by 1%-2%, but would remain compliant with the capital requirements set forth by the Fed during the 2023 CCAR Stress Test," Baird analyst David George wrote in a note to clients.🆘

NEW: PJM Interconnection, the largest electric grid operator in the United States, issued an emergency alert earlier this week and asked power plants to operate at full capacity as a massive heat wave continues to affect the nation.
The company is currently in charge of power supply in 13 states and the Washington D.C. area. In total, PJM Interconnection provides power to 65 million people.

August has two full Moons this year! The full Sturgeon Moon reaches its peak on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, and then we have a full Blue Moon on Wednesday, August 30, 2023—and it will be the closest supermoon of the year! Learn more about the TWO full Moons of August.
When to See the Full Moons in August 2023
August 1: Full Sturgeon Moon
August’s first full Moon will appear on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 1, reaching peak illumination at 2:32 P.M. Eastern Time. That evening, look toward the southeast after sunset to catch a glimpse of the Sturgeon Moon rising. You may have heard that there are four supermoons in a row this year; the August 1 supermoon is the second supermoon of this unusual sequence. “Supermoon” is a catchy term for what astronomers call “a perigean full Moon” which is when the full Moon happens at (or very near) the exact time when the Moon is closest to us in its orbit.
The name “Sturgeon Moon” comes from some Native American groups, primarily those in the Great Lakes region of North America, who found that sturgeon were most abundantly caught during this month.
This Sturgeon Moon will beckon us to connect with others as we ponder our place in the world. During this lunation you may experience a few different energetic frequencies. First, the full Moon will be square to Jupiter, which may make you feel larger than life—social, uplifted, and eager for laughter!
The Sturgeon Moon got its name because of the giant fish that were abundant in the Great Lakes called sturgeon.
North American fishing tribes called August's full moon the sturgeon moon since the species appeared in number during this month. It's also been called the green corn moon, the grain moon, and the red moon for the reddish hue it often takes on in the summer haze.
