The Icelandic Civil Protection issued an alert due to the intensifying seismic activity and the ever-increasing possibility of a new volcanic eruption north of Grindavik. Such an eruption is expected to form along fissures in NE-SW direction northeast of Grindavik. The aviation Color Code has been elevated to orange.
The power plant at the Blue Lagoon is being evacuated, as well as Grindavíkurbær (Grindavik) and Almannavarnar.
