On the evening of Feb. 12th, Hungarian astronomer Krisztian Sarneczky discovered a small asteroid approaching Earth. Less than 2 hours later, astronomers at the Sormano Astronomical Observatory(SAO) chased it down in the skies of Italy.
"Observations by SAO members Testa and Manca helped to precisely determine the asteroid's orbit and trajectory," says astronomer Enrico Colzani. "It was heading for Europe."
4 hours later Asteroid Sar2667 struck Earth. On Feb. 13th at 02:59 UTC,

The light from the meteor was briefly brighter than the Sun, visible as far as 100 km (62 mi) away. It was observed in a wide area of the region and in neighbouring republics. Some eyewitnesses also said they felt intense heat from the fireball.
The asteroid had a total kinetic energy before atmospheric impact equivalent to the blast yield of 400–500 kilotons of TNT.
Its shock wave broke windows and knocked down parts of buildings in six Russian cities
The February 15, 2013, Russian superbolide was extremely powerful; in fact, it was the most powerful explosion caused by an asteroid since Tunguska.
The Tunguska event flattened a wide area of forest and killed reindeer in Siberia in 1908.
