Sun activity January 9: another X flare!!!

AR3184, the sunspot region that just rotated onto the sun’s southeast quadrant, has released an X2 flare. The flare peaked at 18:50 UTC on January 9 and created an R3 radio blackout over the Pacific Ocean. We are waiting for data to see if there was an associated CME. An X flare means there is a good chance for another large flare within the next few hours.

The sun produced another X-flare on Jan. 10th, this time from new sunspot AR3186 at 22:47 UTC...

A new M5.0 has struck along the NW coast of the United States / Oregon, along the outer edge of the JDF (juan de fuca) fracture zone.
