The constellation Orion originated with the Sumerians, who named it URU AN-NA, the "Light of Heaven." Next to it was the constallation GUD AN-NA, the "Bull of Heaven", modern-day Taurus.
The two constellations depicted Sumer's great hero Gilgamesh, fighting the Bull of Heaven.
In Babylonian star catalogues, Orion is named "The Heavenly Shepherd" or "True Shepherd of Anu" – (Anu was the chief god of the heavenly realms).
Later Mesopotamian mythology would assimilate Ninshubur with the Akkadian messenger god Papshukal to become a herald to the general pantheon of gods.
On Babylonian border stones (carved stone used to mark a royal land grant), Papshukal is generally depicted as a walking bird

Gilgamesh. Because he was not fully 'angelic', nor fully human, he would be destined to roam the earth as a demonic spirit upon the death of his physical body. These are Kreutz sungrazers--a fragment from the breakup of a single giant comet many centuries ago. Named after German astronomer Heinrich Kreutz, who studied them in 19th century, Kreutz sungrazers pass by the sun and disintegrate almost every day.
Most, measuring less than a few meters across, are too small to see, but occasionally a bigger fragment like this one attracts attention.

Sirius was Tiānláng (天狼), the Celestial Wolf, denoting invasion and plunder. Southeast of the Wolf was the asterism Húshǐ (弧矢), the celestial Bow and Arrow, which was interpreted as containing Delta, Epsilon, Eta and Kappa Canis Majoris and Delta Velorum.
