This statement was made by Trump in an interview with Politico ahead of his meeting with Zelensky.
The publication writes that the US president reacted to Zelensky's proposed 20-point peace plan without much enthusiasm and is not in a hurry to support his proposal.
"He has nothing until I approve it. So let's see what he has," Trump said.
Nevertheless, he expressed confidence that the meeting this weekend could be productive, the publication notes.
"I think everything will go well with him. I think everything will go well with Putin too," Trump said, adding that he expects to talk to the Russian leader "soon, as soon as I want."

The Director and I strategically moved around FBI assets to the pockets of the country where violent crime was concentrated. And, when we combined this strategic resource allocation with “broken windows” policing, and target prioritization analysis, the results were dramatic. The FBI field offices, in conjunction with law enforcement partners, produced record-breaking arrest numbers and historic drops in violent crime. These are data-based results which defy armchair “analysis.”
Thank you to President Trump for getting the country’s law enforcement operations back to enforcing the law, and away from playing politics. Results matter.

BREAKING! December 26: Shutting down the Hoover Building.
After more than 20 years of failed attempts, we finalized a plan to permanently close the FBI’s Hoover headquarters and move the workforce into a safe, modern facility. Working directly with President Trump and Congress, we accomplished what no one else could.
When we arrived, taxpayers were about to be on the hook for nearly $5 billion for a new headquarters that wouldn’t open until 2035. We scrapped that plan. Instead, we selected the already-existing Reagan Building, saving billions and allowing the transition to begin immediately with required safety and infrastructure upgrades already underway. Once complete, most of the HQ FBI workforce will move in, and the rest are continuing in our ongoing push to put more manpower in the field, where they will remain.
This decision puts resources where they belong: defending the homeland, crushing violent crime, and protecting national security. It delivers better tools for today’s FBI workforce at a fraction of the cost.
