Former Foreign Minister Jeremiah Manele won a secret vote among MPs 31-18 on Thursday, beating his opposition rival who had wanted to reverse the Pacific nation's close ties with Beijing.

Manele was FM when the Solomon Island switched diplomatic ties from Taiwan to China, and is expected to maintain the defense and security pact signed with Beijing in 2022.

Weinstein to be retried after rape conviction overturn

The Manhattan District Attorney wants to take another swing at the Harvey Weinstein rape conviction after prosecutor Nicole Blumberg insisted Wednesday that "we believe in this case".

Weinstein saw his 2020 conviction overturned by New York's highest court last week, but will now face a new trial in September.

👉 Local officials list a variety of measures among “no-other-option steps” to confront Russia. Including absolutely odious and unsubstantiated accusations against the Russian Federation of using chemical weapons. The United States is trying to intimidate our partners, including China, to block the channels of normal foreign trade cooperation. It is once again targeting Russian high-tech, transportation, and energy companies, meaning to “knock out” competitors from the markets.

❗️Washington seems to not understand that Russia and the Russians cannot be intimidated by such decisions. Local officials do not realize that these illegitimate tricks only scare other states away. In fact, they fertilize doubts about the constructiveness of America’s current role in the world.
