👩‍💻👨‍💼Are you able to describe technical issues in layman's term?

📌"Layman's terms" means simple language that non-technical person can understand (пер.

📌The key issue (idea, problem) here is...
📌What we need to talk about now is...
📌One thing I want to look at is...
📌We now come to the most important phase of our discussion.

1️⃣giving meaning of technical words
2️⃣how to use and pronounce some of IoT words and phrases
👨‍💻To explain technical words, we can:

📌use called+the word(s) between commas

✔️We use small data files, called cookies, to...

📌use be

✔️We use EDI. EDI is a way of sharing data between components of a ...

📌use relative clause

✔️We use EDI, which is a way of sharing data between components of a ...

1️⃣some technical words you pronounce incorrectly
2️⃣how to check information during the meeting
«The only stupid question is the one you don’t ask»

🤷🏻How to clarify:

📌What do you mean by...?

📌Would you elaborate on that, please?

📌Could you give an example?

📌Could you put it differently, please?

📃A few clarification phrases to use in emails:

📌I’m not quite clear on a few things and I want to make sure we’re on the same page.

📌I’m not sure when you’d like me to start adding the copy to the development website

📌If I understand you correctly, you want Carolyn to add her SEO changes... Is that right?

Next time I’d like to read about:
1️⃣how to ask about the progress politely
2️⃣technical words your might mispronounce

📌How are you keeping?
📌What’s new on your side/end?

📌Can we think about what's missing or getting in your way?

📌Can you tell me what's getting in your way of getting it done?

📌Can you commit to getting me the answers by the end of the week?

📌Today I`ll start on the code to read the grades from the legacy database, writing tests at the same time, as I’ve started learning.

📌So, I`m going to move this task to ‘Completed”.

📌Today I`d like to keep working on this if it`s OK with you, guys.

📌Today I want to keep working with Carla on the database contention issue with Update Grades.

📌My impediment is that I don't understand some of the recent changes Eddie made to the build file.

📌I`m uncertain whether the automated tests should go all the way to the database tables written by the legacy system, or I should just use mock objects.

📌Explain: warn all people who will be impacted, talk to your manager about the reason for the delay.
❗️Just remember not to say sorry, neither blame other people

📌Give an alternative: make a checklist of the steps of your tasks to correctly state the project progress. Suggest delivering what you have done so far

📌Thank you chance: say thank you to have a few extra days to deliver the task ready and reviewed.
❗️The higher the quality, less serious you delay will seem.

1️⃣Do you want to see posts here in English only?
🤲🏻Two common phrasal verbs to learn:

📌To draw up- to prepare and write something (e.g. a plan) (пер.

✔️We’ve drawn up a list of changes to implement during the quarantine

📌To get down to- to start doing something seriously or with a lot of effort (пер.

✔️I think you should stop water-cooler talks. It’s time to get down to work
🤷🏻Do you know the names of these punctuation marks used in programming?

{} curly brackets
{ open curly
} close curly
* asterisk
^ caret
() brackets
[] square brackets

📌More to come tomorrow
Let’s continue with punctuation marks:

| pipe
‘ tick
~ twiddle (American) or tilde
; semicolon (or just “sem”)
) right parenthesis (or “right paren”)
We still have a few punctuation marks to look at:

# hash sign (could also be “sharp” or “pound”)

/ slash or stroke

& ampersand

\\ backlash

We think that Subject as a tool is usually underused

📌update
📌problem
📌information?

4 rules to title your email:
1️⃣say no to no-subject emails
2️⃣your subject should be SMART: specific, meaningful, appropriate, relevant, thoughtful
3️⃣it shouldn’t be longer than 30-40 characters
4️⃣subject should contain keywords to make it easy to filter and find your email later

”Question”- 👍”Question about the upcoming retrospective meeting”
”Information”- 👍“Change of the end of quarantine date”
”Update”- 👍“Update on company payroll procedure”
🧞‍♂️Magic EOM

Subject line:

Used for:

💪Let’s continue improving your emailing skills:

If you are afraid to sound too pushy, bossy or impolite, when writing about urgent tasks or deadlines, include all “awkward” moments in the subject line

📌Need your approval for… hiring new QA
Most frequent email sign-offs:

#TEnglish_word_of_the_day is to exemplify.

📌Exemplify means to illustrate or clarify by giving an example

✔️ These interviews exemplify how practitioners conduct usability testing and what they describe as the difference between usability and acceptance testing
📌A few verbs we can use with “a test”:

✔️To write a test plan
✔️To run a test
✔️Tests can interact (e.g. with a database)
✔️Tests can pass or fail
✔️Tests files can be named or renamed

After the IT school, I was turned down by lots of companies before I was finally taken on by a VR startup. I thought it was a nine-to-five job but I was wrong. I had to work all hours, and our CEO was constantly checking up on me to make sure I was hard at it. To make matters worse, we were dealing with some financial difficulties. Once I realized that I wasn’t cut out for the job, I decided to hand in my notice. But before I had a chance, they gave me the sack – they realized I was hopeless!

📌to turn sb. down – to say “no” to sb. when they apply for sth.
📌to take sb. on – to employ sb.
📌to check up on sb. – to watch sb. to make sure they are doing their job
📌to be hard at it. – to be working hard
📌to be cut out for sth. / to do sth. – to have the necessary qualities and ability for sth. / to do sth.
📌to hand in your notice – to formally tell your employer that you are leaving your job

WORK IN, AT, FOR or ON

📌TO WORK + IN

✔️You work in a field:

I hope to work in marketing when I’m older

✔️You also work in some environment or a part of a company:

You should work in our Berlin headquarters.

📌TO WORK + FOR

✔️You work for a specific employer (a person or a company):

I understand you work for Adam Black.

She works for a big outsourcing company.

I am self-employed, so I work for myself.

✔️A person or a thing can work for a reason or purpose:

I am happy to work for the success of the company.
