The earth is beginning to wake up. These wild leeks are one of the first (and most popular) spring edibles to show themselves in my area. They're accompanied soon after by morels, false morels and, the beginning of trout season. Get yourself a local field guide and get out there! The God's have blessed us with beauty and bounty and it's spitting in their faces to not enjoy it! GO OUTSIDE!
Spring is in full swing!
Friday, I made a steak in ramp infused butter. Ramps (Allium tricoccum) are an amazing natural edible in this area. If you have them in your area, harvest them. Every part of the plant is usable and great. Ramps are a plant that needs sustainably harvested though. If you find a small patch, cut the rhizomes off in the field and stick em back in the hole. Only take a few full plants from a bunch. Most importantly, Don't tell anyone where you find them. The same with any other resources. Keep it within your Kin and educate them on the gifts from the Gods. We have a responsibility to preserve nature. And, as always... GO OUTSIDE
Took the wife and kids out for a little stomp around a local nature trail. Not much but still had fun and they learned some things. (Pic quality is crap because I didn't take my camera)
