The German Volkssturm:
The Last Mission
1944-1945
The Volkssturm or "People's Storm" was a levée en masse national militia established by Nazi Germany during the last months of WW2. It was set up by the Nazi Party on the direct orders of Adolf Hitler himself. It was established on the 25th of September, 1944.
It was staffed by conscripting males between the ages of 16 and 60 years, who were not already serving in some military unit. The Volkssturm comprised one of the final components of the total war promulgated by Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels, part of the German people’s final attempts to defend the German fatherland.
Volkssturm units fought defensive battles against the Allied forces at the end of the war alongside German civilians, the Hitler Youth, The French 33rd Waffen Grenadier Brigade of the SS Charlemagne, The Indian 950th Waffen Infantry Regiment of the Indian Legion “Freies Indien”, as well as the remaining delegates of the Japanese Empire who remained in Berlin.

In 1933, one of the most iconic and popular songs was created for the Hitlerjugend (Hitler Youth) in oder to celebrate the dawn of the new National Socialist Germany, the Third Reich. Few however are aware that in 1938, for the sake of friendship and mutual appreciation, the Japanese Empire produced her own iteration of the Hitler Youth classic. This post includes both the 1933 German original as well as the 1938 Japanese iteration of this song.

Die Hitlerjugend (The Hitler Youth)
A Production by The Fascifist
Albert Westphal and Mechthild Roth recount their memories of the time they spent in the Hitler Youth and the League of German Girls respectively. The Hitler Youth and League of German Girls were the only official youth organizations during the period of the Third Reich. All other youth organizations were either absorbed or banned. This was all done for the National Socialist ideal of achieving a united Germany; free of internal antagonisms, uplifted in strength of national character, and symbiotically harmonized into a grand high culture worthy of a healthy folk-community. The new Germany was to manifest the aristocratic qualities Plato described in The Republic. A people initiated and educated in the spirit and wisdom of philosopher kings.

The NS - Frauenschaft (1934-1945)
Gertrud Scholtz-Klink (1902–1999) was the leader of the National Socialist women's organization 'NS-Frauenschaft' from 1934-1945, was a die-hard supporter of National Socialism and Adolf Hitler her entire life, despite barbarous jail sentences for her beliefs after the war. It is said that Adolf Hitler proclaimed her 'The perfect National Socialist woman'.
She was interviewed in 1987 by Claudia Koonz who wrote:
'…this was not an ex-Nazi. She remained as much a Nazi now as she had been in 1945 or 1933.'
Scholtz-Klink remembered:
'If you could have seen the women of Berlin defending their city with their lives against the Russians, then you would believe how deeply German women loved our Führer.'

"I asked Joe Kennedy, (US Ambassador in London), about his conversations with Roosevelt and N. Chamberlain in 1938. He said that Chamberlain's conviction in 1939 was that Britain had nothing in its hands to fight, and therefore could not dare to go to war against Hitler... Neither the French nor the English would have made Poland a reason for war if they had not been incessantly incited by Washington... America and world Jewry would have England go to war.“
US Secretary of Defense J. Forrestal on 27.12.1945 in his diary (The Forrestal Diarie's, New York, 1951, p. 121 ff) (cit. according to G. Franz-Willing "Kriegsschuldfrage", Rosenheim 1992, p. 112)
