Heinrich Himmler’s Cousin Was a Catholic Theologian

Wilhelm August Patin was a Catholic theologian, Catholic priest (?), SS member, and first cousin of Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler.

In October 1933, Patin took the position of "Referent for Catholic Action" in the SD in Munich. At the instigation of his cousin Himmler, he had been a supporting member of the SS since mid-1932, while he was admitted to the NSDAP on Himmler's mediation in April or October 1933. Later, Patin became a consultant for political Catholicism at the SD headquarters in Munich, from where he continued his work as a Catholicism expert of the SS intelligence service even after the SD headquarters were moved to Berlin in 1935.

In 1939, Patin finally moved to Berlin, where he became a consultant for Catholicism in the Reich Security Main Office (RASHA) with the rank of SS-Sturmbannführer. He reached his highest SS rank with the promotion to SS-Obersturmbannführer on the 1st of September 1939.
