The Defeat of France by Germany in WW2

"On November 11, 1918, the era of the suffering of the German people began on this train. Everything that could be inflicted on a people in terms of dishonor and humiliation, in terms of human and material suffering, originated here. Breaches of promise and perjury had been conspired against a people who, after more than four years of heroic resistance, had succumbed to only one weakness: belief in the promises of democratic statesmen. On September 3, 1939, 25 years after the outbreak of the World War, England and France again declared war on Germany for no good reason. Now this military campaign has concluded. France has been defeated. The French government has asked the German government to announce the German conditions for an armistice. The historic forest of Compiegne was chosen to receive these conditions in order to erase forever, by this act of restorative justice, a memory which was not a glorious page in the history of France, but which was perceived by the German people as the deepest insult of all time. France, after a glorious resistance, had been defeated in a series of bloody battles and has collapsed. Germany, therefore, has no intention of giving cease-fire negotiations against such a brave enemy."

— Wilhelm Keitel's Commentary on the Armistice with France - June 21, 1940

"May therefore God give us the strength to continue to do our duty and with this prayer we bow in homage before our dead heroes, before those whom they have left behind in bereavement, and before all the other victims of this war."

"If there is a God, then he gives us not only life but also consciousness and awareness. If I live my life according to my God-given insights, then I cannot go wrong, and even if I do, I know I have acted in good faith. I may not be a light of the church, a pulpiteer, but deep down I am a pious man, and believe that whoever fights bravely in defense of a natural law framed by God and never capitulates will never be deserted by the lawgiver, but will, in the end, receive the blessings of Providence."

"But he who dares to use the word "God" for such devilish activity blasphemes against Providence and, according to our belief, he cannot end except in destruction."
