Waffen-SS Soldier Admits that the Russian treatment of captured Germans was far better than the American treatment of captured Germans

At the end of November 1949, Wittmann, along with a large group of other captured soldiers of the Wehrmacht and Waffen SS, was released home. The train was delayed because a Russian officer noticed that the Germans were wearing ordinary trousers, even though it was already November. And they waited until a truck brought 600 pairs of cotton pants from the warehouse.
Wittmann's comrade kept his gold wedding ring and handed it over to the commandant's office upon entering the camp. And in 1949, the administration returned this ring to him. In modern Germany, no one will believe this, since it does not fit the generally accepted stereotype of Russian captivity. But Wittmann saw it with his own eyes!

The fact that Himmler had agreed to make an attempt on Stalin's life showed how pessimistic he was now about our military situation."
