4️⃣ Finding Common Ground

Negotiation isn't about winning.

It's about moving the discussion forward.

Useful phrases:

✔️ We both agree that...

✔️ Our main objective is...

✔️ The real challenge is...

✔️ We seem to agree on...

Examples:

🔹 We both agree that reducing financial risk is important.

🔹 Our main objective is long-term sustainability.

This keeps discussions collaborative.

💡 Language Upgrade

Instead of

❌ I don't agree.

Try

✅ I understand your reasoning, but I'd prioritize liquidity over rapid growth.

---

Instead of

❌ That's risky.

Try

✅ That approach may generate higher returns, but it also increases our exposure to risk.

---

Instead of

❌ We should do this.

Try

✅ I'd recommend this option because it gives us greater financial flexibility.

💬 Mini Conversation

Person A

We should invest everything in the new product.

Person B

Respond professionally.

Use:

1. one acknowledgement
2. one disagreement
3. one alternative

For example:

🔹 I can see why you suggest that. However, I'm not entirely convinced because our cash reserve is limited. Perhaps we could invest gradually instead.
❤4
🗣 Speaking Simulation

Imagine your team is discussing how to spend a $50,000 budget.

One teammate wants rapid growth.

Another wants to minimize risk.

You have one minute.

Your goal is not to persuade everyone.

Your goal is to:

🔹 acknowledge another opinion

🔹 challenge it respectfully

🔹 suggest a better alternative

🔹 find common ground

If you can do that naturally, you're ready for tomorrow's live discussion.

⚪️ Today's challenge

Reply with a professional disagreement using this opening:

➡️ I understand your point, but...

or

➡️ That's a fair point. However...

🔥 5th Session of Think Then Talk - Season 2: Unpopular Opinions 👀

تا حالا شده یه نظری داشته باشی که فکر کنی بیشتر آدم‌ها باهاش مخالفن؟

یا وسط یه بحث با خودت بگی:
“Wait… Am I the only one who doesn't think like that?” 💀

این جلسه قراره درباره‌ی Unpopular Opinions حرف بزنیم؛ نظرهایی که شاید شنیدنشون کمی حرصت بده یا باهاشون مخالف باشی

مثلاً:
💬 Not every opinion deserves to be respected.
👥 Some friendships have an expiration date.
🤷‍♀️ Having a 9-to-5 job is not a bad thing

⁉️ اما سؤال اصلی اینه:
Can you actually defend your opinion? 👀

توی این جلسه تمرین می‌کنیم:
💬 Express our opinions
🧠 Explain our reasoning
🔥 Challenge different perspectives

When and Where?

Build a Clear Opinion

An unpopular opinion is only useful in a discussion if people can understand exactly what you believe.

Compare:

🔹 People spend too much time online.

with:

🔹 I think people spend too much time online because constant digital stimulation makes it harder to tolerate boredom.

The second statement gives the listener something concrete to respond to.

That's the skill we're practicing today:

🧠 Precision before persuasion.

1️⃣ Start with the opinion

Use:

✔️ I think...

✔️ I don't think...

✔️ In my opinion...

But don't stop there.

For example:

🔹 I think traveling is overrated.

Now ask:

What exactly do I mean by that?

Maybe:

🔹I don't think traveling automatically makes people more open-minded.

Now the position is much clearer.

2️⃣ Make your opinion specific

Take these vague opinions:

> Social media is bad.

> University is overrated.

> People work too much.

Rewrite each one so that another person can clearly understand your position.

For example:

🔹 University is overrated.

becomes:

🔹 I think university is overrated for careers where practical experience matters more than a degree.

Notice what changed.

The opinion didn't become more controversial.

It became more precise.

3️⃣ Your challenge

Choose ONE:

🔹 Working from home is overrated.

🔹 Traveling is overrated.

🔹 Social media has made communication worse.

🔹 Being busy doesn't mean being productive.

Now complete:

My opinion:

> I think __.

What I actually m
ean is:

> _.

A more specific v
ersion:

> __.

💡 One rule for today

Don't try to sound intelligent.

Don't try to sound controversial.

Don't use complicated vocabulary.

Make your meaning impossible to misunderstand.

That is the first skill you'll need for Friday's discussion.

An Opinion Needs a Reason

Yesterday you worked on making your opinions specific.

Today we're adding the next layer:

🧠 reasoning.

If someone asks:

🔹 Why do you think that?

saying:

🔹 Because I just think so.

doesn't take the conversation anywhere.

You need to build a small argument.

#education

🧩 The 3-Step Structure

CLAIM → REASON → CONSEQUENCE

1️⃣ CLAIM

What do you believe?

🔹 I think people are too obsessed with productivity.

2️⃣ REASON

Why?

🔹 Because many people measure their value by how much they accomplish every day.

3️⃣ CONSEQUENCE

What happens as a result?

🔹 This can make people focus on being constantly busy instead of focusing on meaningful work.

Now the listener can understand the logic behind your position.

#education

💡 Try it yourself

Choose one:

🔹 Social media has made communication worse.

🔹 Traveling is overrated.

🔹 University is not for everyone.

🔹 Being busy doesn't mean being productive.

Build your argument:

CLAIM

> I think...

REASON

> The main reason is...

CONSEQUENCE

> This can lead to...
