Self Federal money being sent to dead people

Saw this headline, read the article, did the math.

4,900 payments out of a set of 885,000,000,000 (885 billion) transactions examined is

\--> 0.00000055% (55 hundred-millionths of a percent) of the total transactions. (I think I converted that number to words correctly - open to correction.)


The value of these transactions was:

$99,000,000 (ninety-nine million dollars) Heck, that's a lot of money!

The value of all the 885 billion transactions in the data set was:

$2,700,000,000,000 (two point seven trillion dollars) That is an inconceivable amount of money.

\--> the $99M represents 0.00367% (367 hundred thousandths of a percent) of the total amount under consideration.


1) The money did not actually get delivered to dead people - the transactions were bounced back to the issuing agencies before this 'investigation' was done. Article title says "..headed for dead people."

2) The error rate is amazingly low. I would be proud of that "lack of error" rate.

3) Trillions of dollars is so massive that $99M is a miniscule rounding error.

5) Maybe go look at some "no bid" contracts. Might be something going on there...

Request How long a tiramisu before the curvature of the earth becomes a concern

In April, the world record for the longest tiramisu was broken. It was 440 metres long and they laid it all out on a series of tables, not in any sort of container.

It got me wondering about if you did want to make a huge trough to put the tiramisu in, stretching as far as you could get it. How long would the tiramisu trough be able to be completely straight? At what point would the curvature of the earth mean you have to make it slightly bendy?
