This will sound hyperbolic, but it's not ... if Senate Republicans continue the "Blue Slip" tradition, the Republic will fall.
This is a one way street. Democrats get whoever they want into the judiciary and DOJ. Republicans do not use this tool at all to block Democrat nominees. So Democrats have nearly total control of the justice system across the country. That's why Democrats can prosecute whoever they want, and Republicans can barely even get an indictment that gets thrown out a week later.

Personally, I say this is a copout by Times senior editorial staff. This, in my ever so humble opinion, is akin of Time magazine naming A Hitler and J Stalin, twice; as Man of the Year
