To watch him decompress, to understand that he was safe, and to see him understand that food wasnt going to be a rare occasion anymore, and to earn his trust was moving on a level i can’t explain to you in words. To see him grow from fearful to confident & to understand what a HOME was, and that this was HIS *home* was a powerful experience.

I promised him i would give him as many days as i could possibly give. My goal was atleast 8 years. To balance out the 8 years of horror the first half of his life had been. Sadly i lost him to a collapsing trachea at just shy of his 14th ‘gotcha’ day. I still miss him badly. Watching him grow taught me so much & shaped who i am. The hardest day of my life was holding him as he crossed over to go to Heaven. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Im not saying that purchased dogs arent wonderful, but rescue is something apart. You become an angel of mercy for someone who is totally without the ability to help themselves & needs an angel.

There exists a bond with a rescue, a gratitude & love, that is unique.

I lost Howie in march of 2017. In April, I rescued Teddy, who you all know very well.
