EU Shells Out: Bloc To Produce 1m Ammo Pieces Annually For Ukraine
Countries in the bloc will aim to significantly increase the production of shells so that Ukraine can defend itself - as part of the obligation signed up for by the nations, European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton confirmed.
An informal meeting of defence ministers will discuss how to support Ukraine in the long-term more generally, and provide for its needs, RBK Ukraine writes.
The talks come as Ukraine burns through Western ammunition, which EU leaders clearly believe is more important than spending money helping their own citizens…

🇲🇹🤢 This Stinks! Angry Residents Push Back Against Declining Standards
Protesters carried signs declaring 'Sliema garbage town', 'Waste collection one huge mess', and 'Sliema stinks' on Monday, as the densely-populated Maltese city's infrastructure buckles under the weight of a population explosion
The mountains of waste, e-scooters taking over the promenade, and rat infestations have hit headlines in recent days as people reach boiling point.
"This is the situation we face every day. Lack of parking, rising criminality, impunity, and a lack of enforcement. We are here to show our anger and to demand a higher standard in quality of life," one resident told Times of Malta.
"Live in filth an be happy," eh?

Energy giant RWE has quietly started dismantling a wind farm to make way for an open-pit lignite coal mine in North Rhine Westphalia - in a deal brokered by the Green Party - due to the looming energy crisis.
One turbine is already down, and a further seven are slated to be removed so excavation of 15-20 million tonnes of ‘brown’ coal, used for steam-electric power generation, can begin.
In return, RWE has agreed to phase out coal by 2030, bringing forward a deadline already set by eight years, but activists still aren’t happy, saying the move “diverts” from the “critical endeavour” of Agenda 2030.

An ex-classmate of Hubert Aiwanger claims the that lawmaker showed the Hitler salute when entering the classroom when at school, imitated Hitler's speeches and "definitely" told jokes about Jews,
Why? So he could get attention, the classmate claims, but many peers dismissed as a "nutcase," according to ARD.
The allegations come after Aiwanger comes under fire for allegedly being in possession of an anti-semitic leaflet, which his brother now claims to have written.
The incident comes with the context that, in Germany, it is illegal to display pro-Nazi sentiments in the forms of material and salutes.

When addressing the crowd during his Warsaw visit, the US president prompted a hurried clarification from the White House after saying “for God’s sake, this man [Putin] cannot remain in power.”
While “he knew that he had erred, but then resented his aides for creating the impression that they had cleaned up his mess," The Last Politician book, out Tuesday, reports.
“Rather than owning his failure, he fumed to his friends about how he was treated like a toddler. ‘Was John Kennedy ever babied like that?’” he reportedly said.

The Chancellor’s plummeting ratings are in part down to a “complex network” of Russian “state-owned or state-controlled” players primarily using Telegram to influence public opinion.
Government agencies are now linking up to identify Russian “narratives” about Germany and the Ukraine conflict to counter them, the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger writes.
“Russian agencies are spreading a consistently high level of disinformation. Over the past 12 months, there has been no decrease in the level of Russian disinformation,” a spokesperson said.
Nothing to do with spending ordinary Germans’ hard-earned cash on war, a faltering economy that is the worst performing in Europe, or a scandal-ridden government?

Both Vanguard and Blackrock are in retreat as they cut support for environmental, social and governance proposals as they fear the public is growing tired of the constant overreach, the FT reports.
Only 2% of proposals were taken up in the 2023 proxy season, down from 12% in 2022.
Blackrock also only voted in favour of 7% of green proposals in the 12 months to June, compared to roughly 50% in 2021.
