The rotted corpse of a homeless man was discovered in a 50cm hollow by a friend who went to visit him in the dense brush on the edge of the Wienerberg recreation area, with the victim’s head a few metres away with a coin-sized hole made inside.

Despite the body having been ravaged by wildlife, authorities are sure the man’s death was not an accident, as the skull injury “indicates a massive use of force,” the police said.

The discovery is the third homeless killing this summer alone, with a Hungarian man found stabbed to death on a park bench, and a man killed in Josefstadt. Other street sleepers have been attacked, but survived. The police are offering 10,000 for tips.
