39. It all led to the situation described by us two weeks ago, in which Twitter was paid $3,415,323, essentially for being an overwhelmed subcontractor.

Twitter wasn’t just paid. For the amount of work they did for government, they were underpaid.

Note: there was belief at Twitter that the State Department agency GEC was pushing Mike Pompeo’s complaints about China/COVID. How true that was is still a somewhat open question, but execs for sure believed there were “major risks” in working with GEC with an election ahead.

When Republicans do bad things, MSNBC does 24-7 coverage & Fox omits any mention of it.

When Dems do bad things, Fox does 24-7 coverage & MSNBC omits any mention of it.

The democracy crisis is a media that suppresses info based on partisan motive.

This is a heartfelt and important piece about problems in the news landscape. The system values tribal loyalty over truth and as a result stories that go against narrative, like the Lever’s Southwest reporting, don’t reach audiences who most need to hear them near enough. twitter.com/davidsirota/st

I looked up which party the censorship requests came from. I originally assumed both parties were involved, but that's not the case. Democrats are extremely enthusiastic about censorship, while Republicans are more likely to sue Twitter for censorship.

How interesting that this is coming out now. Will the Washington Post address the countless stories they wrote hyping Russian influence on the 2016 race? The Pulitzer they won for such coverage?

Only MSNBC could respond to an expose about how the DHS, FBI, DOD, CIA, and other agencies are funneling masses of content moderation requests to private companies by calling the author of that report "authoritarian." #credibility

1. On August 27, 2021, Dr. Scott Gottlieb - a Pfizer director with over 550,000 Twitter followers - saw a tweet he didn’t like, a tweet that might hurt sales of Pfizer’s mRNA vaccines.

2. The tweet explained correctly that natural immunity after Covid infection was superior to vaccine protection. It called on the White House to “follow the science” and exempt people with natural immunity from upcoming vaccine mandates.

3. It came not from an “anti-vaxxer” like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., but from Dr. Brett Giroir, a physician who had briefly followed Gottlieb as the head of the Food & Drug Administration. Further, the tweet actually encouraged people who did not have natural immunity to “Get vaccinated!”

No matter.

4. By suggesting some people might not need Covid vaccinations, the tweet could raise questions about the shots. Besides being former FDA commissioner, a CNBC contributor, and a prominent voice on Covid public policy, Gottlieb was a senior board member at Pfizer, which depended on mRNA jabs for almost half its $81 billion in sales in 2021. Pfizer paid Gottlieb $365,000 for his work that year.

5. Gottlieb stepped in, emailing Todd O’Boyle, a top lobbyist in Twitter’s Washington office who was also Twitter’s point of contact with the White House.

The post was “corrosive,” Gottlieb wrote. He worried it would “end up going viral and driving news coverage.”
