▫️Former Army lieutenant colonel sentenced to federal prison for possessing child pornography
MIAMI – On March 5, a former Army lieutenant colonel was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison, followed by 15 years of supervised release for possession of child pornography, after pleading guilty in December 2023.
On March 10, 2021, law enforcement officers executed a residential search warrant at home of Edgar Ali Cerda, 49, of Cooper City. An examination of Cerda’s electronic devices revealed multiple images and videos depicting sexual exploitation of children under 12 years of age, with one victim as young as two years old.

▫️FBI Electronics Technician Found Guilty of Child Exploitation Offenses
NASHVILLE – On March 4, 2024, a jury in the Middle District of Tennessee found Justin Carroll guilty of sexual exploitation of a minor, coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity, receipt of child pornography, and transfer of obscene material to an individual under the age of sixteen, announced United States Attorney Henry C. Leventis.
According to evidence presented at trial, between June 2020 and April 27, 2021, Carroll, who was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an electronics technician, engaged in sexually explicit chats and exchanged sexually explicit images with three fourteen-year-old females over various social media platforms after connecting with the minors on chatting websites.

▫️Ga. man gets decades in prison after guilty plea for crossing state lines to have sex with teenager
The 11th Circuit Solicitor General of South Carolina said a Georgia man pled guilty to having sexual conduct with a minor after driving across state lines to meet up with a teenager. He’s now been sentenced to nearly 30 years in prison.
According to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Shawn Copson, 37 of Savannah, pled guilty on Thursday.

▫️San Jose Sharks sued over child sex abuse cover-up
SAN JOSE, Calif. - A recently filed lawsuit claims Sharks Sports & Entertainment covered up a Jr. Sharks coach's alleged grooming and sexual abuse of child hockey players.
At the center of the allegations is Kevin Whitmer, a former San Jose Jr. Sharks hockey coach who the lawsuit accuses of inappropriately touching players under the guise of medical evaluations, asking for photos of kids' bodies and taking them to the locker room alone in April 2021 at the Sharks Ice skating rink -- the official training facility for the National Hockey League team.
"The San Jose Sharks organization that enabled the abuse engaged in cover-up type behavior. They had information they withheld from parents of Sharks players that could have prevented this from happening," Mark Boskovich, the plaintiff's attorney, told San Jose Spotlight. "If these complaints had been taken seriously sooner this could have all been prevented."

▫️Provo parents arrested after they allegedly had sex with their 15-year-old child, claimed it was ‘safer’
PROVO, Utah (ABC4) — Detectives responded to a Provo home and arrested a couple on Thursday after the couple’s 15-year-old child reported they had been a victim of sexual assault for more than a year, according to arrest documents.
To protect the victim, ABC4.com is not publishing the names of the suspects. The victim’s stepfather was arrested for forcible sexual abuse, forcible sodomy, object rape and rape. The victim’s mother was arrested for forcible sexual abuse, forcible sodomy and object rape. Both parents are in their 30s.

▫️Florida man arrested in Weld County on charges of crimes against children
Mar. 8—A Florida man was arrested Thursday in Weld County on multiple charges of crimes against children including internet sexual exploitation, the Weld County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
Joel Kaufman, 47, was arrested on suspicion of eight felony counts with four charges: enticement of a child for human trafficking, internet luring of a child, internet sexual exploitation and criminal attempt to commit a Class 5 or 6 felony.
The sheriff's office made the arrest in conjunction with Homeland Security Investigations, according to the release. The HSI investigators advised Kaufman traveled from Florida with the alleged expectation he would engage in sex with two girls, ages 10 and 14.

▫️Woman who left phone in Irish bar arrested after beastiality and child abuse images found
A woman who left her phone in an Irish pub in Florida was arrested after the bar tender found pictures on it of her performing sexual acts on a small dog.
Ashley M Lynch (37) was arrested after cops were called when the barman at O'Shea's Irish Pub in West Palm Beach, Florida, discovered the images when he unlocked the phone.
Lynch has now been charged with six counts of possessing obscene material depicting child pornography as well as three counts of video voyeurism of a child less than 16 years old.

▫️Raleigh man faces child sex offense charges in 26-year-old case
A 63-year-old man faces charges of first-degree sexual offense and indecent liberties after an investigation into an alleged sexual assault of a juvenile in 1998, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said Friday night.
Charles Russell Walton of 6601 Brandywine Rd., Raleigh, is being held on $500,000 secured bond at the Wake County Detention Center after deputies arrested him Thursday.
The sheriff’s office began its investigation after receiving a report on Nov. 28. Charges were filed “after a thorough investigation and consulting with the Wake County District Attorney’s Office,” a Wake sheriff’s news release said.
“Due to the nature of these crimes, no additional information is available,” the sheriff’s office said.
