Today is an opinion day at the Supreme Court. The justices will convene at 10amET to announce one or more opinions in argued cases this term, we will provide the opinion(s) once they are posted to the home page.

Following that, the justices will hear one case for oral argument: Seven County Coalition v. Eagle County.

NEW: Here is the first (and only) opinion of the day from the Supreme Court. It is a unanimous decision delivered by Justice Jackson, the case is called Bouarfa v. Mayorkas.

Today the justices once again start off with announcing one or more opinions in argued cases this term. Yesterday the justices released one opinion, unanimous ruling, same could happen today. We will find at 10amET.

Following the announcement, the justices will convene to hear Dewberry Group, Inc. v. Dewberry Engineers Inc. for oral argument.

NEW: Here is the first and only opinion this morning from the Supreme Court. The court issued a DIG (dismissed as improvidently granted) in the case of Nvidia v. E. Ohman J:or Fonder AB.

JUST IN: The Supreme Court has granted *two* new cases for oral argument this term.

BREAKING: TikTok has submitted an emergency request to the Supreme Court asking the justices to pause the ban set to begin on January 19, while they appeal their case to the high court. This comes after the DC Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the ban was constitutional and rejected TikTok’s request for an injunction pending appeal.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the appeal of the TikTok ban from the DC Circuit Court of Appeals. The Court will hear the case on January 10 at 10am, which is nine days before the ban is set to take effect. https://www.supremecourt.gov/orders/courtorders/121824zr1_p86b.pdf

NEW: President-Elect Trump has filed an emergency application with the Supreme Court asking the justices to stay the New York criminal sentencing set to take place on Friday, while the appeals of the Presidential immunity issue play out.

BREAKING: Supreme Court has REJECTED President-Elect Trump’s attempts to stay the sentencing in his New York criminal case. Justice Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch and Kavanaugh dissent.

Sentencing is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Usually today would be a conference day (still technically is), however the justices will instead be convening to hear two (consolidated) cases for oral argument. The cases stem from the law that initiates a ban on the popular platform TikTok if it is not divested from its owner company Bytedance.

Over the past few weeks, both parties have been arguing via briefs whether the law should be upheld or struck down. President-Elect Trump also wrote an amicus brief, asking the justices to put a pause on the law while his incoming administration “seeks a political resolution” on the matter.

The first case is two consolidated.

As always, we don’t know which opinions, if more than one, we will receive, but once we have them, we will automatically send them here for all to see. JUST IN: Supreme Court will release one or more opinions in argued cases tomorrow Friday January 17. The justices will not however take the bench. While we don’t know which opinions will be handed down, given the timeline of the TikTok ban, many have indicated that we could have a decision in that case tomorrow.

A quick retrospect, the last time the Court issued a last minute opinion day (while not taking the bench) indicated an unsigned decision from a recent (in the context above, Trump ballot case) controversial case. Since the TikTok ban is set to begin on January 19, the parallels of the two circumstances are very similar, which indicates the likelihood of the TikTok case being decided tomorrow.

Since the justices will not be taking the bench, the opinions will be immediately available on the Supreme Court website, and we will provide you all with the opinion(s) once made available. Although we don’t know for sure which cases are being handed down, or how many, it’s likely we’ll have something related to the TikTok case, given the timeline.
