We all got super emo 🥹🥹 as we started walking up to our #MOANA2 world premiere, our aiga Tiana Nonosina and her group were playing one of my mom's favorite Samoan songs, and like any proud Samoan, she immediately started dancing. She gestures with her hand for me to come and join her. I kiss my babies and I do. This moment for ALL of us is so incredibly significant because it's our Polynesian culture and our Polynesian people represented on the big screen for world to enjoy in MOANA 2. If you’re lucky enough to have both your parents around - absorb them and be as present as you can. I lost my dad unexpectedly a few years back, and learned the lesson that you never know what’s around the corner. We pulled up to our Moana2 premiere in Hawaii and we heard the Samoan music playing. Our Polynesian culture kicked in, and my mom started her Taualuga dance - and this was a very special moment. As you know, the character of MAUI was inspired by my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia and every word, every action, even every song lyric, I perform with his spirit under my skin. My grandpa (as you’ll see when you scroll) was larger than life, wildly charismatic, tough as nails with the most gentle soul and loved by everyone. As a little boy, he was always my demigod. We gotta be careful, there’s so much unhealthy toxicity out there on social media, and I’ve always tried to fly above it and not get pulled down into the sludge - and use my social influence/power for the good stuff. The stuff that makes a real positive impact in people’s lives. Life can be tough for a lot of folks, so let’s bring as much joy as we can to people. For me, it’ll always be the best part of fame. We gave a ton of cash away to every kid in this toy store for Christmas.
