I’m always really moved when young boys cry in front of me. Stops me in my tracks because, us boys never want to be emotional in front of people, let alone cry in front of grown men we look up to. It’s in our DNA to hide emotions, so I’m proud of this kid — keeping his composure, keeping his sense of humor, keeping his manners - all while fighting back his tears 🥹 Very cool to meet you, Ricky and keep working hard young man. Pretty cool and humbling to be this year’s first #GQMOTY cover star. I sat with Zach Baron for this feature and we talked a lot about how it’s hard for me to “hide,” as we sat on the porch at my farm, which is the place I go to step away from the noise. There’s no being inconspicuous these days. But after two decades of high action, adventure and comedy in huge movies, we talked about how I’m excited to do something entirely new: vanish. Zach and I talked about our big upcoming films, Red One and Moana 2, and the deep exploration I did with a completely different kind of movie - A24’s, The Smashing Machine. Take a few minutes and watch this vid - things like this will always be the best part of fame. Hands down. I heard a lot of these kids in Watts, have never been out of their hood. Never been to the beach, never been anywhere fun in Los Angeles. I wanted to help change that. Got them their own custom made bus 🚌 to take them wherever they want to go. I pulled up in my pick up to SURPRISE the boys and girls of the LA Watts Empowerment Center! This is a very special organization with very committed and caring adults that I’ve had the true honor of working with. The lives of these kids matter and they deserve to be uplifted, loved, protected and given opportunities. And holy s#%t can they bring the ENERGY and SCREAMS 😂 Love you guys, enjoy your new bus and Merry Christmas 🎁🎄 ~ dj 👊🏾 #WattsEmpowermentCenter
