Sometimes one of the best paths to begin the healing journey is through our smiles, laughter and joy. I was blessed this past week to have the APALACHEE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM come visit me at the production soundstages I’ve been filming at here in Atlanta, Georgia. As the world knows, Apalachee High School in Winder, GA, has endured the unimaginable tragedy of a mass shooting. I didn’t know what to expect when I walked in to meet them - I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by their spirit and energy. I looked these kids in their eyes and hugged ‘em - I know they’re in great pain, but man are they resilient and staying strong. It was as if they just needed a reason, an opportunity to just “let it all go” in this moment. As we said goodbyes, the last kid I hugged said, “we needed this Rock” (so did I) I can’t begin to imagine what these players and all the students, teachers & staff of Apalachee High are going through right now, but I’m here in any and every way I can be...

In the game of life, their record holds strong. Undefeated. My heart aches and breaks for the students, teachers at Apalachee High School, their families and their community over the pain that they’ve had to endure. With every hug, handshake, embrace and words shared, that I was blessed to experience - it was the powerful reminder that on the other side of tragedy - faith, hope, prayer, resiliency and mana are REAL. Sometimes in life, things may break around you, but it does not mean that you’re broken. And these kids and their families are the living example of that. And if you’re struggling, spinning, wobbly and just can’t quite catch your breath - you gotta reach out and ask for help. It’s ok, to say you’re not ok. Asking for help, is not a weakness, it’s your superpower. Being vulnerable is being strong. I’ve been there and continue to manage it all day by day. An honor to say a few pregame words to the Apalachee High Football Team, seconds before they took their home field in their first game back, after these incredibly brave kids endured a tragic mass shooting at their school on Sept 4th. These players & coaches all play now with a higher purpose and greater intention. Win or lose, they’re all undefeated in the game of life. It was my honor to be in this room. It’s beyond the game.
