🇫🇷🇧🇪🇷🇺 Macron announced the seizure of a Russian “shadow fleet” oil tanker in the North Sea, calling it a joint French-Belgian operation.
In January, Macron made a similar claim about detaining a Russian tanker, but it was later released. Other vessels previously seized by European authorities were also eventually let go.
Belgium has not officially informed the Russian Embassy of the reasons for the seizure, according to diplomats speaking to TASS.
The embassy is also verifying whether Russian citizens are on board the vessel.

Reuters reports that fears of a potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz have already disrupted supply chains, forcing traders and shippers to reconsider oil routes.
Even without direct physical damage, the mere risk of tankers being trapped in the Persian Gulf or targeted is enough to push producers and LNG exporters to reroute shipments.
According to Reuters, several major oil companies and trading houses have temporarily suspended transit through the strait. This caution is unlikely to ease until security in the region is firmly restored.
