Kazakhstani Capital Sheds Ex-Leader’s Name

Authorities in the city have begun changing signs and decorations from the name Nur-Sultan, back to the capital’s old title Astana following a parliamentary decision.

Current President Tokayev renamed Astana to Nur-Sultan in 2019, after Nursultan Nazarbayev left power following almost three-decades of rule.
