This thread is out of the scope of this channel's theme. But let me put it out here. Useful stuff.๐Ÿ‘‡

"How is this relevant to my goals?"

Ask this question more often.

If it's not getting you closer to your ideal self, it's a waste of time.

Define your purpose and pursue it relentlessly.

Ignore the distractions, the gossip & the haters.

Ignore anything that doesn't serve your purpose.

> If you find yourself fidgeting in a high-social-stress environment, you are in trouble

> If you find it hard to maintain long conversations (even if it is boring), you are in trouble

> If you have a habit of shrinking your body to take up less space in the presence of dominant/authoritative figure, you are in trouble

> And finally, if you agree with everyone (even when you know in your bones that you shouldn't) and have trouble saying 'NO', you are in big trouble

THE DUNNING KRUGER EFFECT

A condition where under achievers fail to recognise their shortcomings and incompetence.

This is the mirror image of the Impostor syndrome.

People with DK effect think themselves to be masters of their supposed field when in fact they are far from anything like it.

They lack any effective feedback system where there flaws are addressed back to them.

They are the ones who think they have mastered a subject by watching a YouTube video or reading a pdf.

A little knowledge can lead to overconfidence.

They lack the ability of metacognition preventing them from updating their knowledge and addressing their own incapabilities.

At one point they might have overcome a challenge which in their perspective was very difficult but in fact may have been a mild one in reality.

This will have inflated their sense of self-worth and falsely think they are talented at this.

Another reason DK might occur is due to overcaring family and/or friends.

To avoid any discouragement, parents might not point out the flaws and faults in their children and may even praise their simplest achievements more than necessary.

Dunning Kruger, hence is not a purely human bias or psychological phenomenon.

How to know if you are in DK effect and how to counter it?

People under DK never realise this about themselves.

However, if you notice that everyone around you agrees with you on everything or that nobody cares to even bring up a counter argument, be sure they're fed up with your 'expertise'.

Once you realise this, contradict your own beliefs/knowledge.
Can you bring up good justification for that first knowledge? What needs to change? How can you change it?

Developing this kind of metacognition will help you keep DK in check.

To the Joneses, you should appear as an open book

You are an equal among them. You are a sheep of the same wool.

This means you have to keep secret the fact that you have secrets.

They will be like bloodhounds pursuing a trail at the first scent of something buried.

On the day you die,

You will face your demons.

When you do,

Will they admire you

Or will they laugh at you?

People aren't as logical as you think they are.

Most of them lack the faculty to think critically in first principles, which requires energy expenditure.

They run on emotions and react to stimuli like a programmed robot.

This is why seemingly intelligent people tend to fall for birth crystal healings and ponzi schemes.

You, being aware of this inherent irrationality of humans has the greater advantage.

This awareness makes you a master in social interactions, negotiations and in business.

"If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared."

-Niccollรฒ Machiavelli

Imposing damage on your competitors/enemies just for the sake of teaching a lesson can blowback.

The pleasure of revenge trumps that of the carnal desires from Venus.

And your enemy will pursue that pleasure like a hound tracks a blood trail.

Either you can ignore the fuss. Like an elephant ignores a barking dog.

You mind your business and walk your road.

But when you do, make sure he is not planning, plotting and grouping against you.

No one is immune to a sucker punch. No one.

Remember, a hurt serpent always seeks the heel that smote him.

Hence incapacitation is the best strategy.

There's no room for negotiation, sympathy or reconciliation. Zilch.

"I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel."
