According to the Green Markets North America Fertilizer Price Index, the cost of fertiliser is currently at a record high, eclipsing its 2008 heights recorded during the last strong inflationary episode. Analysts are forecasting the cost of US corn production to increase by 16 per cent. With more fertiliser plant closures possible as producers attempt to come to grips with rocketing gas costs, fertiliser prices may continue to head even higher. https://www.news.com.au/finance/economy/australian-economy/rising-fertiliser-and-energy-prices-could-hit-aussie-supermarkets-hard/news-story/b55905302f02b6336229e73b9782514c
USA - The water has been temporarily shut off on a portion of Robinson’s land. In exchange, he’s receiving $909 this year for each acre of farmland left dry and unplanted. The water is instead staying in Lake Mead, near Las Vegas, to help slow the unrelenting decline of the largest reservoir in the country. https://www.chronline.com/stories/as-drought-worsens-california-farmers-are-being-paid-not-to-grow-crops,275411

A global supply chain crisis is brewing, leading to a full-spectrum shortage of essential items. This is the result of mass centralization, where policies are dictated and synchronized by the aristocrats of the New Normal. If the problem is not a lockdown, then it is a dearth of raw materials. If ports are ready to unload raw materials and finished products, then truckers are unavailable to pick them up. If truckers are available, ports are unable to process freights. https://www.rt.com/op-ed/537664-supply-chains-shortage-crisis/
Power shortages are turning out streetlights and shutting down factories in China. The poor in Brazil are choosing between paying for food or electricity. German corn and wheat farmers can’t find fertilizer, made using natural gas. And fears are rising that Europe will have to ration electricity if it’s a cold winter. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/energy-crunch-hits-global-recovery-as-winter-approaches/ar-AAPHD9c
Acer has confirmed yet another cyberattack on its servers in Taiwan after their offices in India were hit less than a week ago by the same group. The Desorden Group said part of why they conducted the second attack was to prove their point "that Acer is way behind in its cybersecurity effects on protecting its data and is a global network of vulnerable servers." https://www.zdnet.com/article/acer-hit-with-second-cyberattack-in-less-than-a-week-this-time-in-taiwan-offices/
Price hikes by exporters come on top of record shipping costs -- mostly paid by importers rather than manufacturers -- which are almost 300% higher than a year ago, according to maritime advisory and research firm Drewry. For years, China’s factories have acted as a brake on global inflation as they cut costs to keep foreign customers amid sluggish demand and competition from up-and-coming manufacturing rivals like Vietnam. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/double-digit-price-hikes-on-china-exports-add-to-inflation-risk/ar-AAPIIXM?pfr=1

The head of Scottish Power has said Britain’s gas crisis will keep driving energy bills higher until 2023, and could leave only five or six of the strongest suppliers standing. The only energy companies able to survive a fresh £4bn blow to the energy supply market would include a small number of players backed by major multinational firms. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/oct/21/expect-18-more-months-of-rising-energy-bills-uk-householders-warned
