NIFTY slips below 18,900
The benchmark index fell for the sixth straight session in the biggest losing streak since February 2023. All sectoral indices were trading in red, with Realty, Media and PSU Bank, falling over 2% respectively. Here are the top reasons behind today's fall.
⭐ Consistent sell-off by FIIs
Foreign investors have further accelerated their selling in October month. FIIs has sold shares worth ₹17,396 crore so far this month. FIIs have been net sellers of Indian equities for three consecutive months. This sell-off comes amid rising US bond yield, which rose to above 5%, hitting a 16-year high.
During uncertain times, investors look for safe-haven assets to park their investments. Hence, amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, foreign investors are increasingly moving towards bonds instead of volatile equity markets.
⭐ Domestic market tanks amid slump in global markets
Sell-off in the Indian market is also triggered by a fall in global markets. US and European markets have witnessed a significant decline this week, with NASDAQ and S&P 500 falling 2.4% and 1.4% respectively in yesterday’s session.
A combination of economic and geopolitics factors has pulled down world markets. The Israel-Hamas conflict continues to be a major headwind for markets globally.
