▪️It is NOT PERMISSIBLE to describe a Dead Person as 'forgiven' or 'upon whom is mercy'

All praise be to Allāh, and may peace and blessings of Allāh be upon His servant and His Messenger, Muḥammad, and upon his family and Companions. As for what follows :

Many announcements have appeared in the newspapers concerning the deaths of some people, as have the notices of bereavements placed by the relatives of the dead, describing the dead therein as 'forgiven' or saying 'upon whom is mercy,' or such sayings alike, indicating that he is one of the inhabitants of Paradise. It is not unknown to anyone who has knowledge of the religion of Islām and its beliefs that this is one of the things which is known to none except Allāh, and that the belief of Ahlus-Sunnah wal Jamā'ah is that it is not permissible to testify for anyone that he is in Paradise or Hell, except for those who are documented in the Qur'ān, such as Abu Lahab, or for those whose end was testified to by the Messenger (ﷺ), such as the ten from among the Companions, may Allāh be pleased with them, and their like; or others such as them, for whom there is evidence of their being forgiven or shown mercy. Therefore it is incumbent to say instead: “May Allāh forgive him" or "May Allāh have mercy on him", or similar words of supplication for the dead.

I ask Allāh, the Most Glorified that He guide us all to the Straight Path. And may peace and blessings of Allāh be upon our Prophet Muḥammad, and upon his family and Companions.

Buying and selling in the Masājid via telephone

Question:

What’s the ruling of buying and selling through the telephone while being inside a Masjid ?

May Allah preserve you.

Answer:

It’s disliked to buy and sell inside the Masjid even if it was through the telephone, and this was the legal ruling of the ‘Allāmah Ibn ‘Utheymīn, may Allah have mercy upon him, as it comes in “Sharh Al-Bulūgh “.

For the Masājid are only established for the Tawhīd of Allah, singling out Allah alone, and His worship, through prayer and His remembrance, Exalted is He.

Allah, the Most High, said:

” In houses (Masājid), which Allah has ordered to be raised (to be cleaned, and to be honoured), in them His Name is glorified in the mornings and in the afternoons or the evenings,

Men whom neither trade nor sale diverts them from the Remembrance of Allah (with heart and tongue), nor from performing As-Salāt (Iqamat-as-Salāt), nor from giving the Zakāt.”

[An-Nūr:36-37]

And in Sahih Muslim on the authority of Buraydah, may Allaah be pleased with him, that the Prophet ﷺ said:

(إنما بنيت المساجد لما بنيت له)

“The Masājid are only for that which it’s built for.”

And avoiding this in the Masājid is from veneration of the symbols of Allah.

He, the Most High, said:

(ذَٰلِكَ وَمَن يُعَظِّمْ شَعَٰٓئِرَ ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّهَا مِن تَقْوَى ٱلْقُلُوبِ)

“Thus it is. And whosoever honours the Symbols of Allah, then it is truly from the piety of the heart.”

[Al-Hajj:32]

And Ibn Batāl, alongside other than him, have relayed the consensus of the validity of the sale & purchase, if it took place in the Masjid , with this the scholars differ in relation to its prohibition or it being disliked.

And the Majority are upon it being disliked, and this is what is declared most correct by Shaykh-Ul-Islām.

And the apparent of the evidences is with the position of those that are upon it being prohibited, due to the hadeeth of ‘Amr bin Shu’ayb, from his father, from his grand-father: that the Prophet ﷺ forbade buying and selling in the Masjid .

Reported by the authors of the sunnan with a decent chain of narration.

As for its invalidity; the Majority of the people of knowledge are upon the lack of it being invalid.

And what is brought to attention is that using the hadīth of Abu Hurayrah:

(إذا رأيتم من يبيع أو يبتاع في المسجد فقولوا لا أربح الله تجارتك)

“If you see anyone selling or purchasing in the Masjid, then tell them, may Allah not bring about benefit through your commerce.”

As a reason for the lack of declaring the purchase/sale invalid; being that there is a approval of it in the hadīth, but that it’s supplicated against with the fruitlessness of their profit.

Is rejected because the hadīth is defectious; it’s been declared as such by Ad-Daaruqutni, due it being Mursal.

And Allah knows best.

▪️He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving▪️

Our Shaykh, Abu Abdillah Muhammad ba Jamaal - may Allaah preserve him - said in his Tafsir of Surah Al-Mulk:

🔸▪️🔸▪️🔸▪️🔸▪️🔸▪️🔸▪️

Benefit:

Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:

{وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفُور}

"He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving” [67:2]

⤵️The Shaikh explained that this means:

‘Allah is extremely powerful in taking to account all that disobey and oppose His command. And He is the Most Honorable, Ever-Invincible. Yet with all of this ultimate power, He is Ever-Forgiving to the one that repents to Him from his mistakes then leaves them to return to His Lord.

And He combines between these two names to clarify to His servants the greatness of His forgiveness for them and to show the completeness of His power over them.

And His saying,

{الْغَفُورُ}

“The Forgiving”

This name comes on the scale in Arabic that means to do alot of. And this points to Allah’s great and tremendous forgiveness and in the numerous amounts that He forgives and it also shows how much the servant sins.

And the proof of Allah's amazing forgiveness is the hadith Qudsi that Imaam Muslim compiled from Abu Dhar

“ And he who meets Me in the state that his sins fill the earth, but not associating anything with Me, I would meet Him with the same (vastness) of pardon (on My behalf)."

And also the supporting hadith that Imaam Tirmidhi reported on the authority of Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) also from Abu Dhar that the Prophet(صلى الله عليه وسلم) said,
‏ ‏ ‏
‘O son of Adam! Verily as long as you called upon Me and hoped in Me, I forgave you, despite whatever may have occurred from you, and I did not mind. O son of Adam! Were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky, then you sought forgiveness from Me, I would forgive you, and I would not mind. So son of Adam! If you came to me with sins nearly as great as the earth, and then you met Me not associating anything with Me, I would come to you with forgiveness nearly as great as it.'

So oh servant of Allah, the one constantly committing mistakes and disobeying his Lord, never despair of the mercy of Allah. Know that if you repent to Allah, He forgives all sins, again and again and again.

▪️Is it permissible to sell or give away gifts?▪️

Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizām -may Allāh preserve him- was asked the following question:

📩 Question:

The questioner says: Is it permissible to buy or sell a gift after it becomes yours?

📝 Answer:

Yes, if it is gifted to you, then it is yours. You can sell it or gift it to others.

As for the saying:
((الهدية لا تهدى ولا تباع))
"Gifts are not to be given away or sold"

then this is from the words of the people - it is not a hadīth.

Cutting the voluntary prayer to attend to a need

Question:

If a person knocks the door while she is praying voluntary, is it allowed for her to cut her prayer to open the door?

Answer:

If she suspects that it is her mother or father or what might cause her harm, and it is within her scope not to cut her Salah and take and few steps and open the door – there is nothing wrong with this. Man or woman, there is nothing wrong with this.

Due to the story of Jurayj, O Jurayj! He said: “O my Lord, my mother or my Salah?”, so he continued with Salah and left answering his mother.

And a second time (she called him) and the likes of this, his mother said: “O Allāh do not cause him to die until he sees the face of a prostitute.” Then Jurayj was tested….That prostitute sought dominance over him and presented herself to him but he didn’t pay her any attention or look at her.

So she presented herself to a sheep herder and she said it (the baby) is from Jurayj. So he was tested.

They went to his temple, They destroyed it and began to curse him and beat him. He said: “What’s wrong with you.” They said: “You had relations with that prostitute until she became pregnant with your child.” He said: “Where is the child.” They said: “Here.” So he made wudhu then prayed then came and poked him with his finger and said: “Who is your father?” He said: “The herder.”

So they began to venerate him and also they said: “We will rebuild your temple from gold.” Extremism and negligence with the children of Isrā’ēl. Exaggeration and recklessness without retirement.

The point of benefit is he was tested due to the duā of his mother against him. The people of knowledge said at the likes of this Hadith, if his father or mother calls him and he is in a voluntary prayer, then he leaves the prayer and focuses on answering his father or mother. This is better. As for obligatory prayer then no.

And likewise, it is said for a woman with her father and mother and her husband, if the affair allows her, as long as she doesn’t nullify her prayer. And even if she left the voluntary prayer and opened the door then returned to it, the affair is flexible, from the angle of something being important but another thing being more important.

Benefit from the Allamah:

Nāsir As-Sa’di

-May Allah have mercy upon him-

Whoever intends by their supplication to draw near to Allah with the supplication, as well as to be given what they request, then he is more complete than many who don’t intend except only what they want to be given, as is the condition of many of the people.

And this is from the fruits of having beneficial knowledge; as ignorance obstructs many of the creation from having lofty intentions, and beautiful directions.

From the blessings of dedicating to knowledge◾️

By our Shaykh, the 'Allāmah, the Trustworthy Advisor, Abū 'Abdirrahmān Yahya bin 'Alī Al-Hajūri - may Allāh preserve him -
⤵️
🔸▪️🔸▪️🔸▪️🔸▪️🔸▪️🔸▪️🔸

"From the blessings of dedicating to knowledge, is that fitan (trials) die out, go away, and dissolve.

Don't let the Shaytān busy you with it, till you reach the point where you don't even care about it. Trample on it on top of the thoughts of Shaytān by the grace of Allāh, and remain knowing the fitnah, and the people of fitnah. You leave it and continue going on. It holds no weight. Before you know it the summer clouds have come.

This is from the blessing of dedicating to knowledge, is that, fitan doesn't slap you in the face and blows you away, no! You are still on your path; it goes by, and it doesn't affect you~this is from the grace of Allāh - i.e fitnah passes by and you are with knowledge, with the Sunnah and so forth, as comes in the Hadith of Abdillāh bin Amr;

"A fitnah comes, so the believer says:"This is my destruction."

Ya'nī, he fears from it; but he turns towards duā and dhikr of Allāh, and worship. Allāh makes a way out, then it passes.

Another one comes and he faces it the same way he faced the first; he fears it but he faces it by turning towards obedience of Allāh and duā and dhikr and what is of obedience to Allāh; then Allāh makes it pass.

Mentioned in the Hadith is that it doesn't harm him. He said, “so it passes away.” It didn't say, “so it makes him fall”. It points towards that he deals with it with the obedience of Allāh and making duā, and asking for success, and correctness.

It is like this - he deals with it with worship, with dhikr, he knows it, he fears it, it comes and he fears it, due to his statement, 'my destruction'. He fears it's harm, it's shame and severity, but he deals with it with the obedience of Allāh and so it goes. Alhamdulillah, it doesn't affect him, and the Hadith falls on him!

"Until the hearts become of two types: one white like a white stone which will not be harmed by any fitnah, so long as the heavens and the earth exist."

◾️Learning ones lineage◾️

Answered by Shaykh Abu Hamza Hassan bin Muhammed Bā Shu'ayb -may Allah preserve him-

📝🔹Question:

What is the legislated ruling on knowing ones lineage?

📩🔸Answer:

This is required in the legislation due to the Hadith of Abī Hurairah may Allāh be pleased with him on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ:

تَعَلَّمُوا مِنْ أَنْسَابِكُمْ مَا تَصِلُونَ بِهِ أَرْحَامَكُمْ، فَإِنَّ صِلَةَ الرَّحِمِ مَحَبَّةٌ فِي الْأَهْلِ، مَثْرَاةٌ فِي الْمَالِ، مَنْسَأَةٌ فِي الْأَثَرِ".

"Learn from your lineage what will enable you to connect the ties of kinship. For indeed connecting the ties of kinship encourages affection amongst the relatives, increases the wealth, and increases the lifespan."
[Reported by Ahmed & Tirmidhi, authenticated by Al-Albānī]
