EU sees way to pay for Russian gas without breaching sanctions
💢European companies will be able to pay for Russian gas in rubles without violating EU sanctions, Reuters reports. To do this, they will need to pay in dollars or euros, which will then be converted into rubles.
A letter of clarification to the EU countries was sent by the European Commission. The agency clarifies that according to the new requirements of Russia, it is still possible to make payments in dollars or euros under existing contracts.
The EC added that buyers of a Russian company from among European companies will be able to open accounts in a Russian bank, deposit foreign currency into them, convert it into rubles and make payments. This scheme eliminates the possibility of Western countries blocking gas payments.

More than 30 firms producing crucial electronic components have had to halt production in Kunshan, a city which is close to Shanghai. The lockdown rules affecting Shanghai have now spread to Kunshan.
These shutdowns will severely damage China’s already slowing economy.
But it isn’t just China which will be affected.
