Talking About Quantities

Useful words:

quanto / quanta → how much

quanti / quante → how many

troppo → too much

poco → little / not much

abbastanza → enough

Quanti caffè vuoi?
How many coffees do you want?

Quanta acqua bevi?
How much water do you drink?

È troppo.
It’s too much.

Quick Tip:

Italian changes the word depending on masculine / feminine:

quanto → masculine (quanto pane)

quanta → feminine (quanta pizza)

You can say "Basta così" for "that's enough."

Both come from the verb bastare (to be enough)


Basta → singular

Un caffè basta.

Un giorno basta.


Bastano → plural

Due caffè bastano.
