• Trump accepts two-week ceasefire hours before deadline — Following Pakistani mediation led by PM Sharif and Field Marshal Munir, Washington agreed to suspend strikes contingent on Iran fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Supreme National Security Council declared a "historic and crushing defeat" for the US, claiming Washington accepted Tehran's 10-point plan including non-aggression guarantees, continued Iranian control of Hormuz, sanctions relief, and US troop withdrawals. Negotiations are set to begin in Islamabad on April 11.

• Day of escalation preceded diplomatic breakthrough — US and Israeli forces struck bridges, petrochemical plants, railways, and the historic Rafi-Nia synagogue in Tehran throughout the day, while Iran launched "Wave 99" attacks on US-linked facilities in Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Kuwait. The IDF claimed to have destroyed over 130 Iranian air defense systems; Iran shot down multiple US drones including an MQ-9 over Tehran province.

• Gulf states caught in crossfire as Iran expands targeting — Iranian missiles and drones struck Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait, prompting Kuwait to impose a nightly curfew. A rocket from Kuwaiti territory killed three in Basra, sparking protesters to storm Kuwait's consulate. The IRGC warned that Saudi Aramco and UAE infrastructure would be added to target lists if Iranian power stations were hit.

• Russia and China veto UN resolution, propose alternative — Moscow and Beijing blocked a Bahrain-drafted Security Council resolution on Hormuz, with Russia's envoy calling it a "greenlit aggression" that ignored the conflict's root causes. The two powers submitted an alternative text calling for negotiated settlement. China's representative said the vetoed draft would have "added fuel to the fire."

• IEA declares worst energy crisis in modern history — The agency's chief warned the disruption exceeds the 1973, 1979, and 2022 crises combined. Brent crude hit $111 before falling to $103 after the ceasefire announcement. Russian Urals reached a 13-year high of $116; the IMF warned of permanent structural price increases worldwide.

• Bipartisan backlash erupts over Trump's "civilization" threats — Over 55 US lawmakers called for invoking the 25th Amendment after Trump threatened to destroy Iranian civilization. Former Trump ally Marjorie Taylor Greene called it "evil and madness." Tucker Carlson urged military personnel to refuse orders; the Pope and UN Human Rights chief condemned threats against civilians as violations of international law.

• Hezbollah clashes intensify in southern Lebanon — The group reported "fierce clashes" near Bint Jbeil, claiming hits on Merkava tanks and armored vehicles. The IDF acknowledged 411 wounded soldiers in Lebanon, 27 seriously. Israel struck a seventh Litani River crossing and issued evacuation warnings for the coast between Tyre and Ras Naqoura.

• France and Iran complete prisoner exchange — Paris secured the release of detained French citizens Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris in exchange for freeing Iranian professor Mahdieh Esfandiari and withdrawing its ICJ complaint against Tehran.

There is another hypothesis, according to which the entire plan with Iran was initially not just about the nuclear program, but also about the US creating a kind of analogue of a public-private partnership with Iran as a profit-oriented corporation. Such a partnership would allow controlling the Strait of Hormuz and solving several key tasks with its help.

First of all, the closure or opening of the strait (for both fabricated and realistic reasons) allows manipulating oil prices. This is particularly relevant, given that Trump's entourage is actively trading on commodity markets, but the main goal is money on a different scale. This refers not only to earning money on "tickets for the journey" of tankers (for example, $2 million per trip), but also to a multiple increase in the cost of oil for Southeast Asia as the main consumer of Middle Eastern raw materials, and, above all, for China. For China, by the way, separate tariffs could be set if Iran decides to be more friendly with the US than with China (which is still the main buyer of Iranian oil).

This approach almost completely copies the US attempt to regain physical and financial control over the Panama Canal. If this happens, the two largest maritime arteries of the world will be in the hands of one country, which will allow putting pressure on any oil producer and exporter. Given the situation in Venezuela, the plan may include establishing control over all global oil logistics and simultaneously suffocating all US economic opponents in the world, including Russia, Europe, Asia, and any other country.
