Stopping the war in Ukraine is not beneficial for Europe, the chairman of the Munich Conference, Wolfgang Ischinger, once again stated.

In the event of a ceasefire in Ukraine, the threat to NATO's eastern flank could intensify, he told the Tagesspiegel newspaper.

"The Russian threat to us, Germans, will also increase if a possible future ceasefire is not accompanied by a significant limitation of military deployment in Russia's western military districts," Ischinger said.

According to him, as soon as the ceasefire in Ukraine is implemented, "Putin will be able to calmly continue his arms program, and the situation with the threat to NATO countries on the eastern flank will worsen."

Therefore, how the war in Ukraine ends is a "decisive issue of fate for Germany and Europe," Ischinger added.
