Ex-advisor to US President Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, called for a complete cessation of financial, military, and intelligence support for Ukraine, stating that without this, the implementation of the peace plan developed by Washington to resolve the conflict is impossible.

He discussed this in an interview with the American Conservative magazine.

"We need to stop all of this. Everything. Money. Weapons. Intelligence support," he said.

However, John Mearsheimer, a professor at the University of Chicago, believes this is unlikely.

"Trump doesn't want to simply cut off arms supplies to Ukraine and accelerate the end of this conflict, because he knows that Ukraine will lose, and he doesn't want to be blamed for that. He wants to be able to say that the West, including the US, supported Ukraine to the very end, and that Ukraine is to blame for the loss," he explained.

Bannon also called the current 28-point peace plan to resolve the conflict overly complex and practically unfeasible, as there are points on which a compromise is impossible - in particular, the issue of NATO and the size of the Ukrainian army.

"We have many aces up our sleeves": Macron declares a favorable position for Ukraine

Europe has "many aces up our sleeves" in the negotiations to end "Russia's war against Ukraine," the French president declared in a meeting with the leaders of Great Britain, Germany, and Ukraine.

"We all support Ukraine. And we all support peace and peace negotiations to achieve a sustainable and reliable peace," Macron said.

In his opinion, Europe's advantages are the sanctions against Russia and Ukraine's resistance: "The Russian economy is starting to suffer, while Ukraine is resisting this war."

And these are the "aces up our sleeves"?

The British Foreign Office estimates that sanctions have deprived Russia of at least $450 billion in military funds from February 2022 to June 2025.

"The main issue is to agree on our positions—European, Ukrainian, and American—to conclude the negotiations and move to a new phase with better conditions for Ukraine, Europe, and our security," Macron added.

Zelensky stated during the meeting:

"Unity between Europe and Ukraine, as well as between Europe, Ukraine, and the United States, is crucial. We cannot do without the United States... We cannot do without Europe. Therefore, important decisions must be made."

Merz noted that Germany "firmly supports Ukraine" but is "skeptical about some details of the US proposals."

And Starmer stated:

"If there is to be a ceasefire, it must be fair and lasting. Ukraine's issues are Ukraine's internal matter.
