The Old Belief

From the ancient North comes the spiritual legacy of our folk, passed on from the very words of our highest God, whom we call Wóden. His blood flows through our veins, for he is our creator, our earliest ancestor who gave us life with his divine wisdom. He and his brothers, Hanwer and Léod, found two trees or logs lying on a beach and from them created the first of our kind, known as Æsċ and Elm. Léod gave them the ability to move, as well as their divine image, what is called blood with ġebǽru and wlite goda. Our All-Father, Wóden, then gave them gást, a ‘Spirit,’ to connect us to him and all the other Gods and Goddesses through sacred practice. His is the ability to sing, to pray, to chant, and to speak with our breath. Finally, Hanwer gave the sáwol, which is our ability to be inspired by the Gods, and how we manifest that inspiration. Wóden is the God whose primary function is to send inspiration through his power of the runes. It is the "gift for a gift" tradition of praying and receiving that is so holy to our ancient way.*

Ésatréow Arise

For several decades now, there has been a religious revival taking place all over the Western world among the descendants of the indigenous peoples of Northern Europe. This religion, known as Ésatréow (Ay-zah-tray-oh), meaning ‘Belief in the Gods’, or Wodendom, embodies the wisdom, lore, and customs of an ancestral culture developed in Norway, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Denmark, Sweden, England, Scotland, Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria. The children of these lands, who have explored the entire world, spread the values and ideals ingrained within this belief system wherever they went, even after they were converted to a foreign dogma. These values include a respect for honor and valor, as well as kindness and compassion, and a fierce devotion to the concepts of liberty and independence. We worship many deities, and therefore understand that, just as there are various Gods and Goddesses, there are various ways to connect to them. As one source states “There is no truth, but there are truths,” so we will not dictate to one another how each are supposed to live their lives on the Wodenish path, as long as we do so with honor and integrity. However, when we establish our Schools of Thought, as other polytheistic systems have, we can build a solid foundation of belief and moral integrity.

This is an old talk. I’ve changed much over the years. A few things stated in this video, today I might tweak a bit, but that’s what happens when you learn and grow - you change your mind, you evolve. Overall though, the crux of what I dealt with, still holds water. I hope this helps you today.

Our Folk Belief

What we can do for one another is provide a foundation for us to be able to live spiritually fulfilled lives using the religion that calls to us through the voices of our forebears. In order for Ésatréow/Wódendóm to have real worth, beyond a set of maxims for living and rituals to perform, it must be able to significantly benefit our folk and then the whole of mankind. Thus it must be able to answer those important philosophical questions such as: Why are we here? What is the meaning of life? What happens when we die? What is the nature of divinity? and so on. But for Wódeneras/Ésatréoweras, the answers to these questions must be logical and reasonable, for we will not accept fantastical explanations or baseless superstitions. Our lore is symbolic, which just about all of us understand and accept; but underneath the symbols and allegories are spiritual truths that are profound and enlightening, and can aid us in our search for understanding the hidden forces of our universe.

Diatomaceous Earth

This fluffy, soft white powder is created by grinding up the tiny fossils of diatoms (plankton) in sedimentary rock. It is mostly silica.

To us, this powder is pleasantly poofy, kind of like what you would imagine angels would have dustbaths in to fluff up their wings.

However, to insects, this powder - at their scale - is like a pile of jagged broken glass. It tears away at their bodies, exposing them to the elements, which causes them to dehydrate and die.

Pile it up around plants, dust it on leaves. However, water deactivates it, so you have to reapply every time it gets wet.

It will kill beneficial insects, too, so be careful with it around flowers!

It has more uses than just in the garden:

- Mix with your dry food storage to deter pests.
- Ingest to take care of internal parasites.
- Lifting stains - absorbs twice its weight in liquid, water or oil!
- Deodorizer for pets or trash can.
- Flea/tick control on pets!

ALWAYS buy food grade DE! Other stuff is full of fillers.
