What??? $10 doesn’t buy 1 steak around here, let alone 2.

A pack of 2 t-bones cost me about $28 to $40 around here. And that’s at the grocery store not some fancy butcher or restaurant.

Part of it is that most things are just cheaper in poor areas. But it's also that it was a great deal even for here. Would have been about $20 full price
One of the realities of American life is that people with more money often just choose to pay more for the same goods. This is obvious in many cases; they'll buy expensive brands instead of the store brands coming off the same factory line. But they're also willing to shell out more generally, which means that store owners in rich areas can get away with raising prices for no material benefit.

Here's an example from a previous post:

Poor areas tend to have better pricing for most goods and services. As an extreme example, would you rather live in Darien, Connecticut, where a home costs $1.6 million and a big Mac meal at your favorite local fast food joint, with less than a quarter pound of beef, costs $18, or a poor-ville like my area where you can get a nice house and some land for $60k and head down to the local eatery for a $7 ½ pound burger meal at a non-fast food restaurant? (Bonus: all you can eat chicken gizzards at the salad bar.)

Gas station by me had a poor man's deal on steaks. We eatin' good tonight
Ended up working longer than I thought I would today. Guess these are going in sous vide overnight. 137.5°F. Maybe I make steak breakfast burritos. 🤤
Steak, egg, cheddar and pepperjack, cilantro, butter. Now that's poor eatin' in the USA.
I've been hiking for years (even back in the a Chicago suburbs) without even considering that someone might come to the trail to break into my car. No incidents. Have I just gotten lucky or is this dude being paranoid?

Maybe I just, generally speaking, don't have stuff people would want to steal? Lol

Based Yooper Hospitality author praises Christ despite the fact that he'd likely make more money if he refrained.
Wife and I were selling some old dog stuff on marketplace. We were a bit late, because wife set up the meeting forgetting about the time zone change. We got there, apologized, and then the Yooper started to haggle...

Except... he wanted to give us more than the price we agreed upon... despite the fact that we made him wait like an extra 20 minutes...

Should I enable positive reacts?
The people have spoken, they want positive reacts. But, so Plato notes in The Republic, "Democracy passes into despotism." We're keeping things as is. Stay poor, friends.
