In 2023 Calumet held its Olympic competition awarding gold medals to top contender pasty eaters and pullers. This year Calumet’s annual pasty fest will travel back in time for a medieval-themed pasty fest. Annually the streets of Calumet fill with hundreds of people enjoying the regional dish that came to the Upper Peninsula by way of Cornwall, England. The Cornish pasty quickly became a favorite meal for miners in the region for its convenience and delicious fillings.

The medieval time theme will bring a mini-renaissance fair. Just as last year’s Pasty Fest included Olympic events, this year’s medieval theme will have participants take part in jousting, the return of the strong man pasty pull, and pasty eating competition. Even featuring the heralded battle between House Ketchup and House Gravy. Additionally, the festival’s organizers expect the fun for Saturday to spill over into Friday evening with a concert at the Calumet Theatre and a poetry slam at Eva’s Hideaway. Pasty Fest’s main events and the traditional parade will take place on August 17th. Find more details ahead of Pasty Fest here. Those interested in getting involved with the event as a volunteer or vendor should contact Leah Poolzin with Main Street Calumet.
Making some pasties but with buttermilk substituted in for the water. Googled to try to find other folks trying this idea... All that comes up for "'buttermilk pasty'" is this nigga talkin' about how Jesus wasn't a "buttermilk pasty pale skinned blue eyes white man."

Note to self: buttermilk makes dough expand more. Lol

Will try to figure out how to adjust for that next time. Won't fit in a miner's pocket, but still tastes great!
I'll never be able to afford that! Unfair!

Lady.... I honestly can't tell if you're lying or a hell of a lot more naive and unworldly than your fashion choices suggest, but just actually walk into the store next time, please
Each soul is thrust into its appointed era by the hand of God Himself, with providential intent, as a seed is planted in its destined soil. To rail against the times one has found oneself in is to question the Gardener's wisdom. Our tribulations are not random thorns, but carefully cultivated challenges designed to nurture our growth. In lamenting our epoch, we blind ourselves to the divine foresight that placed us precisely when we are meant to develop and flourish.
