βPeople generally have more control over their actions than their feelings. But we can influence our feelings by taking action. Take one small step. Move the body first and the mind will follow.β

βThere are some things you canβt understand yet. Your life will be a great and continuous unfolding. Itβs good youβve worked hard to resolve childhood issues while in your twenties, but understand that what you resolve will need to be resolved again. And again. You will come to know things that can only be known with the wisdom of age and the grace of years. Most of those things will have to do with forgiveness.β

Surely education has no meaning unless it helps you understand the vast experience of life with all its subtleties, with its extraordinary beauty, its sorrows and joys. You may earn degrees, you may have a series of letters after your name and land a good job, but then what? What is the point of it all if in the process your mind becomes dull, weary, stupid?

The world contains far more information than any single person can learn in their lifetime.
The question is not whether you are ignorant, but what you choose to be ignorant about.
Few topics are worth your precious time. Choose what you pay attention to with great care.

The only numbers that matter:
Steps taken today
Glasses of water drunk
Minutes meditated
Hours of sleep
Minutes excercised
Books read
Investments made
Songs listened
Journal entries written
Minutes of focused work
Screen time
Loyal friends
Acts of love & kindness

My motto for improving at just about every skill. When you're away from the practice, study it obsessively. Break it down and explore the nuances of the craft. Once it's time to perform, put all the thinking away and let the wisdom of intuition guide you.

When people tell me "quantity isn't what matters" in writing:
β’ Van Gogh painted 900+ paintings & thousands of sketches over his lifetime.
β’ Beethoven composed 722 works (including 9 symphonies, 35 sonatas, 16 string quartets).
β’ Mozart composed over 600.
Volume wins.
Obviously there are tipping points:
β’ Too much volume, too little quality, and you plateau and stall improvement.
β’ But too little volume and you overthink everything, plateau and stall improvement.
How much time does "quality" take?
It's up to you.

So, I guess we are who we are for alot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.

Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life, but it ainβt how hard you can hit. Itβs how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. Itβs how much you can take, and keep moving forward. Thatβs how winning is done. - Rocky Balboa #movies (character)
