Martyrs of Kalat – 13 November 1839

On13 November 1839, alongside the Khan of Balochistan, Mir Mehrab Khan , nearly four hundred valiant Baloch warriors laid down their lives while resisting the British invasion of Kalat. Most of their names, tragically, were never recorded in history.

To preserve their memory, the Shahmeerani Taak (Baloch Martyrs Memorial Council) of the Baloch National Movement (BNM) has created symbolic portraits of these fallen heroes — hand-drawn digital sketches refined with AI tools— as a tribute to their courage and sacrifice. These artworks are displayed on this dedicated page; you can click on each image to view the name and details of the martyr it represents.

Alongside them, hundreds of other Baloch warriors from the Mengal, Zehri, Muhammad Hassani, Shahwani, Bangulzai, Qalandrani, Gurganari, Simalani, Mirwani, and Kambarani tribes also embraced martyrdom. Though their names may have been lost to time, their valor and devotion to the homeland continue to illuminate the pages of Baloch history.

The Three Great Martyrs of Balochistan: Patriots Who Placed Homeland Above Religion :


When the British invaded Balochistan in 1839, many Baloch chieftains refused to stand beside Khan Mehrab Khan, the king of Balochistan. In that moment of crisis, it was the Hindu sons of Baloch soil who stepped forward to defend their land.

Following Baloch and Islamic tradition, Khan Mehrab Khan tried to dissuade them, insisting that the protection of their lives and property was his duty. He could not allow his Hindu citizens—being a minority—to face the horrors of war.

But those brave men responded with unshakable conviction:

> “If our religion stands in the way of our duty, we are ready to renounce it today and embrace Islam. But we must not be denied the right to defend our beloved homeland.”

Moved by their courage and patriotism, Khan Mehrab Khan granted them permission to join the most memorable battle in Baloch history.

On 13 November 1839, in the fierce defense of Baloch soil against the British assault, Lal Shaheed Khan Mehrab and four hundred valiant Baloch warriors attained martyrdom.

Among these heroes, three names shine eternally in the history of Balochistan:

Sketches and Images

The sketches of the known martyrs of Kalat, dated November 13, 1839, have been created to help more vividly preserve their historical significance in public memory. These conceptual portraits are inspired by the visual references available from the period close to their time. Special attention has been given to ensure that their attire and appearance reflect the fashions and features of that era.

In crafting these sketches, modern artistic techniques were employed with a conscious effort to avoid faces that are purely AI-generated. Human imagination and creative interpretation have been integrated to the fullest extent possible. Multiple versions of each martyr’s image were produced to allow future generations the freedom to recreate or reinterpret them in line with their own perspectives.

The artworks were created by Qazi Rehan for Shamirani Taak, blending digital art with artificial intelligence to honor the memory of the martyrs.
