After AG Paxton issued an opinion that child gender modification was child abuse, Governor Abbott issued directive this week to consider child gender modification child abuse. Let’s call for Abbott to act by calling a special session to accomplish stopping this harmful practice in our state.
This is a critical issue of concern for primary voters with over 95% support by RPT voters. Such bills were stalled before reaching the House floor in regular session. Representative Matt Krause and others have stated there are more than enough votes in the House to accomplish this. The Senate already passed bills curtailing the practice several times during regular session.
Recently, Governor Abbott also promised a parent’s ‘bill of rights’ should be in the Texas constitution. This week another parent in the Austin metro area (Eanes ISD- West Lake Hills) was arrested at a school board meeting and subsequently jailed overnight. This was on the heels of two parents arrested and jailed in September catalyzed by Round Rock ISD, also in the Austin Metro area. Let’s call out these arrests as wrong and call for immediate action on free speech rights of parents to peacefully petition their government without fear of reprisal.
