If bitten or scratched by any animal wash the area with soap and water and then put alcohol on it. To make sure bacteria doesn't get into the open skin. One should worry most about bacteria and parasites (as they do exist and can cause serious infections like flesh eating bacteria, etc) than viruses (which have never been isolated, thus never proven to exist).
