I was surprised to learn that in NestJS, nearly everything is shared across incoming requests.
Database connection pools. Singleton services. Providers with global state. All shared.
Coming from a multi-threaded, request-per-thread model, that sounded risky at first.
But Node.js doesn’t handle each request on its own thread. It runs on a single-threaded event loop, so Nest’s default singleton scope is normal and efficient.
The important caveat: shared ≠ automatically safe for all state.
Singletons are safe when they’re stateless or carefully managed. If you store per-request data on a singleton, async interleaving can cause race conditions, memory leaks, or data leaking between users.
My rule:
✅ Share connections, config, caches, and stateless services
❌ Don’t store request-specific state on singletons
✅ Use request-scoped providers or AsyncLocalStorage when you need request context
Nest makes sharing easy. Keeping shared state safe is on us.

Chen Guangyu joined Kimi’s AI research team in November 2025, when he was just 16 and still in high school. He reportedly earns around 70 million yuan annually, roughly $10 million despite having no university degree or PhD.
His research has already attracted international attention. Chen became the first co-author of a paper recognized by specialists worldwide, with findings used in a model containing 2.8 trillion parameters.
On October 15, Chen announced his departure from Kimi and revealed plans to move to the San Francisco Bay Area, home to many of the world’s leading AI labs.
